Today Ducati unveiled some interesting new concept models that they are considering production of.
Designed to revive the spirit of 1970s motorcycling these three machines benefit from the addition of an engine that is miles ahead of what was seen in Ducati machines from the seventies. Powering these concept bikes is the new Desmo 1000 DS engine. This powerplant is an absolute pearler and in our opinion would make these concept bikes an absolute delight to ride and would almost definitely position them as the best 'retro' bikes on the market. Here you can find some dyno charts of the 1000 DS engine (http://www.mcnews.com.au/Testing/Ducati/1000SS/Dyno.htm) as found in the latest 1000 SS. But these charts do not do the new engine justice, it is simply the most well behaved and tractable v-twin engine on the market. Tubular frames make an appearance and completely expose the engine. While we do love the DS engine, it is far from pretty. But no doubt the 'retro' market will take a shine to the look.Twin shocks at the rear (GT only), spoked rims, and long old style exhaust systems all keep with the 'retro' them but no drum brakes to be found here, thank god. A pair of 320mm discs are gripped by Brembo 'Serie Oro' four-piston calipers, these are fed their lifeblood via braided lines. The models are as follows;
Ducati Paul Smart 1000
Ducati GT 1000
Ducati Sport 1000
