View Full Version : Loan bike success

The weather gods decided to play dirty for most of the day.
The riders were all informed that their choice to ride or not was theirs and that their decisions had to be based upon their accepted skill level, the fact Zimmer is a big bike which they'd never ridden and, finally, that bugging out due to the conditions was in no way cowardly, in fact it demonstrated good self control. Better yet, AMCC agreed they could come back for the next ART day at no further charge. How good is that?
Anyway, one decided to come back. Another rode his own bike for one round then decided it would be safer to come back. The third damned near gave me a heart attack.
He was first out on Zimmer in G1. The chequered flag came out and I waited, and waited, and waited for the rider to come into the pits. No show. "Oh shit! He must have gone down." That had me running around looking for a track-marshal with a radio.
'Nope. Nobody's gone down.'
'Well where the hell is he?' I wondered.
Turns out that a line marshal had worked with the rider for a few laps, followed him into the pits then suggested he may as well go out with G2, which was one hell of an accolade for a rather young, first time trackie. And so he did.
Down came the rain. The youngster asserted he could hack it, so with some misgivings I let him go again.
I needn't have worried. This young man is rather unique. Not only does he listen to and absorb everything he is told, he follows instructions.
Later a senior instructor asserted he had been watching this young man and was very pleased with the way he handled the conditions.
He's a good kid, Steve. You must be proud of him.
And so, Zimmer will return on 15th November for the other two to have a fair crack. Let's hope the weather is better.
Thanks AMCC. As usual, a superbly run day.

Thank you David, you did a big thing for a sixteen yearold lad.
Christian had an Epic weekend - isn't he a great fella! My goal is to find him some bike to ride for the 15th.
Thanks again. We are all buzzing.

What is it with you two (you and Clivorus)? You've each got, arguably, the spunkiest women in the land yet your eyes wander.
Send them to me, young sirs! I will attend upon them as princesses deserve while you two go out and catch a dose of clap.

I'll lay claim to the one in the BKS leathers.
I worked mainly with groups one and two. It has to be said the young fella. He listened to everything that was said, asked the right questions, was nice and smooth and from what I saw and clearly enjoying himself but it was one of the other instructors who 'took him under his wing'. Good on ya dpex for supplyng the necessary, a top idea.

If you email Colleen Thompson
Colleen Thompson [Colleen@paraserv.co.nz] She'll be able to find out for you. Good lady.
As regards a bike, you might like to give Frosty a call. He has something which might do the job. I believe it's a 400. Not fast, but that's not the object of the exercise. Learning to ride super-smooth is.
Not that I'm any great judge of riders, but I do know a thing or two about people, it seems to me that Christian has three extremely valuable assets with respect to becoming, perhaps, a top rider. The first being; he seems very mature for his age. Second; he seems to have amazing control over his emotions. About the only time I noticed any significant emotion was when he got his certificate for attending the day. Third; his ability to absorb and follow every instruction is a rare talent in a lad of his age.
In your position, I'd be thinking long and hard about getting some real expert advice on his actual ability.
You might consider giving Andrew Stroud a call and asking if he'll give Christian the once-over. Andrew is one hell of a nice guy and very into helping youth.
If he agrees Christian can use Zimmer again for the event.
Dunno. But if you don't ask you don't get.

LMAO. Not arguing with you there mate. My babe is hot for sure. Every healthy relationship should have a "celebrity shag clause".

That's saying a lot, considering it was his first time on the bike, as well as it being his first time on the track! He has always had a quiet confident air about him. Because of this, we have tried to make the most of opportunities that come along. We owned a jetboat for a while, and he could drive that fairly proficiently. He's had a go at Scuba Diving, water skiing and knee boarding. As regards bikes, his time on the track with Pocket Bikes probably helps some...
Thank you dpex for your loaner bike and thank you to all the instructors that assisted him on the day. He's already talking about 'the next time'...
Oh, as an aside, his 250 sold today, so I guess he's in the market for another bike...

The only negative from all this was in receiving an 'infraction' notice for posting the lead comment in the wrong forum!!!
Yup. Apparently I infracted by posting an article about a track day in the meetings and events section. 2 demerit points!!!
The mean spirited individual who infracted me goes by the nick Nasty. Fairly apt nick, I would have thought.
