how many of you dirt riders ride with "pressure suits" or other forms of under jersey more or less full upper body armor?

ive been told its ridiculously hot to ride in. how true is this and is it worth it? or what armor do you guys recommend?

I've got a EVS pressure suit. I don't find it too hot at all. I really recommend them if you fall off a lot like me....

i bought some about 6 months ago, didnt like it, it was hot, itchy and it bunched up, i ended up selling it to a mate, think ill go back to just using roost guards. tried a mates one on and it was real comfy.

it was one of these.....

I ve got a EVS suit as well i dont think its too hot. I have RXR one as well (the one you fill with air) Ilike that one the best in terms of protection but it does get hot in those as there are no vents.
The evs one has a mesh material so as long as your shirt is one of those mesh kinds it shouldnt not be hot at all. Although the thing i hate most about them is the elbow guards , you have to strap them and my hands tend to get sore and feel quite restricted.
You cant compare it to a old school plastic roost guard though in terms of how hot it gets .
Ive got a cheap VCAN roost guard as well and i wore that for the 2MAN on sunday since it was going to get really hot...I didn't regret the decision.
There goes thats my 2 cents worth...
The pic of the THOR roost guard that FLYINGCR250 has put above is a really nice one

I wear an alpinestars pressure suit and would highly recommend it. Only thing i don't like bout them is the zip doesn't seem to be that good. My brothers one won't zip up and mine is quite hard to zip. They are a couple years old now

it's undeniable that you get hotter in a pressure suit than you do wearing a roost protecter but you do get used to the heat and i don't notice it anymore. Although if i went for a ride with just a jersey and a roost protecter i'd probably be amazed at how nice and cool it is.

Another point is it's not really gonna stop descent injuries any more than a roost protecter as it gonna absorb little impact at speed. but will stop little hurties with the elbow protection.... probably more designed to stop big scrapes up your arms...

I've been wearing a 661 pressure suit with mesh between the pads for a year now and am thinkin i'll go back to a roost protecter as it'll be cooler and all the injuries i get seem to be tissue/impact damage

Have a pressure suit it cooks me but I wear it anyway .I have to wear a singlet under it or it rubs my nipples raw which is probably why i get so hot. Keep meaning to sew a couple of bits of material into it but never get around to it.

Had been thinking about going back to rideing with no armour to cool down a bit, was thinking I'm not getting hurt I don't need it. But after a fall from a skateboard last week which has chewed my elbow up (made me realise how many times I've hit stuff with them on the bike and had no injurys) and shoulder checking a few trees at the two man I think I stay with it . My shoulder is sore and arm a bit weak but I'm pretty sure it would be worse if it wasnt for the pads.

iv got the white 661 suit. i tryed on a few versions before getting the 661 version. i made sure they wernt scratchy, that ruled out the cheaper ones. i made sure that i had full mobility, ie could reach all around my head for helmet etc. made sure it fitted, the earlier 661 suits, the red ones, had really long arms relative to size, i mean too long by 5-6 inches.
i tried all the ones a cycletreads - moshin, EVS, 661(1st and 2nd version). got the 661 as it fitted the best, was the most comfortable and had efficient cooling.
i got put of the alpinestars one because of cost, i never tried one on though. it was around 500 when i was looking, got the 661 for around 300.

as for getting too hot. did the tussock buster with it, wasnt a problem, and on the summer rides just ride without a jersey, theres normally not much mud to worry about...

I've been wearing a Titec armour suit/ jacket. Was fine and I like how much you get away with when you stack it.

I've now got a 661 Pro pressure suit which is actually the Mountain bike version.
A little bit restrictive but well worth the extra hassle when you need it.

I run EVS Knee braces aswell and feel unsafe if I don't have ALL my crash gear on.
You get used to it all and it becomes like wearing your seatbelt in the car.

LOL I also get sore nipples if I don't wear something under my pressure suit. You can just put a plaster over your nipples.... LOL

Even if you sew something over that area, you'll still get rubbing which will give you the same problem.

I thought the nipple rubbing was a feature?

*cough*

Anyway, I have an EVS one I think. Seems good enough and I haven't noticed nipple rubbing.

I use Rawleighs Salve on my nipples. Works a treat!
Otherwise they fkn bleed! Rog, my team mate used plasters in the 4hr race. They looked like a couple of hedgehogs when he ripped them off. Crack up!

I use RXR armour, think its great and offers the best protection. Can be hot in summer but can wear without a jersey then

Got the Alpinestars one after fiddling with & trying on EVS, 661 & Alpinestars. It was more adjustable and just the right shape (or am I the wrong shape?). Not tested it properly yet inpact-wise, but broken bones are less painful if you don't need to fix the skin-scrapes and cuts as well.

Not had heat issues, but I'm mostly chasing after small kids and they need a break every 10 mins. I wear a polypro top underneath (an old one, keeps you warm when it's cold & cool when it's hot type of thing) and a jersey on top. I can still feel a draught when riding, so if I went faster I'd be cooler - probably in more ways than one...

It's not the cheapest, but felt the most robust.

I rode with an Azonic one for 2 years and just got a new Fox Launch one from BTO in the states. I wouldn't ride without one frankly. My evs neck guard tail fits really nice down behind the backprotector spine as well.
I don't find it to hot although I seldom ride with an MX jersey on over top. Just as cool this way than with an MX top and roost guard I reckon? Just let the breeze cool l you through the mesh in the vest. By the time you add separate roost guard, kidney belt, Elbow guards together they are not bad value.
No hassle to clean either I just hang it on the fence, dynamo it and hose it off when I do the boots and bike.
Good luck!

I had an EVS but went to a thor after my big stack, I think that the solid plastic back protector was responsible for breaking my ribs, it lined up with the x-ray. The thor back protector is a bit mor flexible. They are hot and nipple chafing but good if you stack it heaps.
Just using the Thor roost protector now and its sweet.
