Yes ! they do exist !! and,.... I do believe they deserve a wave of thanks when they make an effort to let you past when filtering. So many agressive pricks in cars trying to intimidate us off the roads, lord knows I encounter them frequently!!!!! but, every now and then, someone will be kind enough to give me all the room I need (which isnt alot) A little toot and wave of thanks is all thats needed to show your appreciation.
No,... I'm not looking for a group hug. It just happens so seldom that, I think its worth posting about when I see it. :wari:

Yes they do exist and i try to thank them each time someone does that. There is the odd occasion where i cant but i mentally thank them at least, does that count??

On the open road I find that truckies, along with some car drivers are the friendliest.
I have encountered more than once a truck in a windy piece of road where I can't see ahead. They obviously can't move over but give a few signals with their indicators that I can pass them, always thank them with a wave.
It's stuff like that, along with the car drivers who give us room that I appreciate. None of that I'm too good for you attitude.

Yes, you can communicate alot with drivers even though your face is hidden behind a helmet, and its better to use your hands with good gestures than bad as giving the people rude finger gestures only gets everyone worked up, then distracted mentally from the task of riding your bike.
I listened to a pod cast about a 'street whisperer' a guy who goes around and talks on street psychology to example... town councils etc and how to deal with car gatherings etc.
A interesting topic was the aggressive driver and your reaction to this behaviour was to wave confidently and look directly at them, one is they slow down to try and see if its someone they know ....you don't get the fight or flight reaction.
The other thing is hell that person knows me and how embarassing that ive been caught showing a side of me which i try to hide.
Another example is to get to know your neighbour a few doors down your street, wave at the guy down the street who speeds, when people know each other they tend to behave a little more responsibly as the now know the parents who live down the road with two kids that like to play around the street etc.
I just thought it was a interesting approach im not sure if i should try the waving vigourosly of the bike though! :shit:

Yep I give a wave of thanks to anyone who lets me in, or pulls over to make the passing move easier.
I don't often toot - it is tricky with air horns to not make that sound aggressive
There are definitely good car drivers out there.

PAH!!! Completely untrue! I had it drummed into me to always pull over to the left for a bike or change lanes on the motorway to get out of their way, something I've done for the last 12 years but never even ridden a bike

Hmm. I think I'll keep both my hands on the handlebars when filtering. I'll probably be busy giving my appreciation to one and another will cut me off.

I've had cops move over to give me room when lane splitting and not just the once either.

I have recently had car drivers flash their headlights at me warning of an upcoming plod. Now that is nice :D

Nah its about time we had a "cagers are cool - we lurrrve cagers" thread. Makes a change from all the dissing and trashing, though I do enjoy a bit of that too, LOL.

2nd September 2009, 11:18
When they move over for me, I give a gentle wave - they are more likely to move over for other bikes then
I move over when in my car, and get pissed off when the bikers won't go past in a clear run!

Something I've noticed...the 'friendly flash warning'...then no cops/camera vans...:bash:
But those that pull to the side always get a wave/toot/nod of thanks.

When attacking the Akaroa hill, I always appreciate cagers that pull over. Wave if I can, but survival instincts come first! And big ups to drivers who flash us. I try to reciprocate in kind.

I seem to remember scumdog mentioning that he does that to people just to annoy/slow them.
That flash is bloody kind and handy though especially coming over the straights on the Napier-Taupo.

I always acknowledge considerate driving with a wave or a nod. Nothing like a little positive reinforcement....

Yes I too always try to give a friendly wave to those that move over. The more we all do it the more likely they will start moving over more often imo

Oh yeah - can be a saver. On those rare occasions that I'm 1kph over...
No harm done when one is behaving, but it is annoying that 1. someone appears to think you are going to fast (or likely to)...and 2. there is no 'hazard' up the road

Yep so true! I let a group of motorcyclists out of a gas station not long ago, got lots of waves... :innocent:
On the other hand however, whenever I do pull over or stop for a bike, I always get a wave! How considerate you bunch are! :woohoo:

They do exist. And are to be encouraged, congratulated and rewarded for it, too.
* point of order...these types of drivers are most definitely NOT cagers.

I am not too sure if it is ALWAYS bikers driving cars - though in the 20 years since riding in my younger days before taking it up again, I would always give bikers room to pass if I could.
I am pretty sure that it is not BUS or TAXI drivers because they don't understand the concept of 'considerate driving'!

Here here to that, those ignorant barstards deserve everything they get.
Your point of order acknowledged MSTRS, quite right too, "drivers" of 4 wheeled vehicles is what they is.

So often true! I usually keep an eye out for bikes and pull over if it's safe to let them pass if there are yellow lines. Most times I get a wave, but I do get pissed off when I don't!
