View Full Version : Truck Door...

Heading out to tag the tag this morning. Came up behind a truck and trailer unit stopped on the side of the road. A car is coming the other way towards me. So I slow up a bit but still look to be reaching the truck at the same time as the car does.
Slow further, see the gap between is quite a decent size so proceed through between the two vehicamickles. At which time the bloody truck driver opens his door. At around head height for me. No real big drama - there was enough room, just, and at a pinch I could have ducked under the door (tall truck!). But there was a brief "TWANG!" moment there all the same....
MEMO: Not everyone looks behind when they open a vehicle door....

I don't see why. I'd say that luck was used up with the truck

Ah the twang of the spincter muscle slamming shut in readyness for the pain, far to numerous is the time when that has happened to me.
Glad you didn't connect.

I've avoided ALOT of door hits when ridding my pushbike by giving parked cards a wide berth. You can see there's someone about to get out though on a pushbike.
Lucky miss though, maybe he thought "nah he'll go under :D"
BTW, you going for a thread starter record?

I wont go near a stationary vehicle with someone in the drivers' seat, unless I have eye contact. In time you get good at reading them.
I have a mate who had his gixxer taken out in this manner. Lengthy legal battle ensuing.

Should be a clear cut case the law states that you must check before opening the door and if you cause an accident you are liable.....go get em:chase:

Always expect the unexpected!
Filtering up to the front of stationary traffic at some lights a couple of years ago and some old bloke opens his door and gets one leg out! He was about two inches from having my gixxer implanted in his leg and door! Neither of us said a word - too stunned to say anything

Next time, try a little 'pip' 'pip' on the horn.
It's what I do.

Nope, I said loud.
If you are already deaf, then you can go much louder without doing any harm.
