well last few weeks ive been driving to work ( Newmarket ) from Helensville would appear that riders who filter on the nor western are rude i have for the last 11 years while driving in from the shore always moved over and made room for bikers filtering through and have always had a nod a wave even a flick of the indiactor for moving over. last few week on the norwestern not once. Counted this morning 12 bikes went past not one so if you see orange ss-v that dosn't move over any more you bought it on yah selfs.

No we aren't.

I try to wave for anyone who makes room, but sometimes I'm a bit concerned about all the other drivers who are trying to kill me.

So, thanks if I haven't thanked you previously.

I don't wave when riding in high winds myself as I found sudden gusts of wind aint good for control when you only have one hand on steering.

mate, i think you should step it up a bit. if they don't wave you should try to push them off the road next time you see them, there is no excuse for bad manners.

The scary part is he rides a bike.

I love the advertisement factor. Tomorrow 12 bikers will now be on the lookout for an orange SS-V.

Bikers are good blokes and blokesses I've found. So I always trust they're at least appreciating it.

He needs a hug. Geez, he drives an orange SSV. Even his mother would stop hugging him for driving a piece of crap like that.

Droll responses aside. You have to admit, it's kind'a nice when a prole in a cage acknowledges your good deed, or some hairy lout lifts a hand as he crosses the crossing you just stopped for, or a biker flicks a wave for a good deed done.

Yeah, tis. Tis nice. But not getting hardly qualifies the not-getter for counselling. Get a life, buddy.

I usually try and wave (if I can) but it's not too good an idea to take your hand of the bars when you're splitting!

Also, a flick of the indicators... they should already be on :P

Interesting.
He says that he has been making an effort for a group of people who don't appear to give a shit and so he's not going to make an effort any more.
He then gets ripped up for arse paper by the majority of responders.

Well, I'm with the O.P.

I'd stop wasting my time too.

It's simple courtesy really, which means that a fair proportion of those who I referred to, won't have a clue what I'm talking about.

For those who don't know what an orange SS-v looks like.

Although, this one is moving. Unlike the one you'll see on the North Western tommorow :)

Kiwis need recognition when they behave courteously on the road,in spite of the fact that if they were truly mature they would drive that way all the time.
Or else they will go back to behaving like cunts.

This is another waving thread!!

Huzzah. We haven't had one of them for ages.

Maybe we should have a "North-Western Commuters KB Wave"

...a nod a wave even a flick of the indicator for moving over...

You count the old "Lift the last two fingers of the hand about two inches off the bar" TM as a wave right ? Otherwise, Im probably a statistic (A non acknowledger)

Also, Its great that you make the effort for bikes etc and I try to do this too when Im driving, but... Interestingly, when splitting, particularly on the motorway there are seldom times when a driver moving over (out of the way) is actually facilitating my spiltting. Generally all they are doing is making a gap which was already big enough even bigger.

...Maybe Im not doing it right ?

It is so sad that drivers REQUIRE thanks for doing something that every driver SHOULD do! Why does everyone think that showing a little COURTESY (look it up if you don't know the meaning of the word) takes a herculean effort and requires huge gratitude from everyone?

So, when I am in the car:
I am driving along the motorway in the rightmost lane passing slower cars, I notice a car in my rear view mirror closing on me, I pass a couple more cars and come up to a gap in the middle lane so I indicate left and change lanes, letting the faster driver go past. I require no thanks and deserve no medal, all I would like in return is for the slow cars that I come up behind to show similar courtesy and get the FUCK out of my way! Since that is too much to ask I am selling my car after I get back from the Cold Kiwi and will stick to 2 wheels where passing inconsiderate dicks is much easier. Anyone want to buy a cheap 1.5 litre, 5 speed manual, 2 door car? (flaws: 4 wheels, too wide to lane split, paint not the best, 1991, 172,000kms. Good points: 4 decent tyres, WoF, Reg, Alarm, Stereo - $1500ono)

Of course when I notice someone deliberately moving over in their lane so I can split past them easier I often give a little wave of thanks. Despite them just doing what they should it can't help to encourage courtesy, pity more drivers aren't aware of other traffic and making an effort to be courteous, but mostly if they hold their line or indicate if they want to change lanes then it isn't too hard to get by safely.

Now if we could just get mandatory courtesy training for Bus & Taxi drivers and huge fines every time they get caught driving like dicks, then within a couple of decades we might see some half way decent driving from them! Did I tell you about the time that this taxi driver . . . never mind, I'd only get worked up over it.

So, how does that work if you need to use the motorway? Fucked if I'd be happy with a loaner that couldn't do 100kph.

It does not put some people off. The amount of 50cc scooters that I see on the motorway is astonishing.
Luckily the police do not care, either.

I wonder if it's more that the Police can't tell the difference when a 50cc Scooter buzzes past them compared to a 100cc scooter and can't be arsed checking.

(much the same way they can't be arsed monitoring the new transit lane at Te Atatu city bound for solo-occupant cars using the bastard)

Well that was a bit of interesting research.
The council do not care what happens on the bypass lane "it is transit's problem" (or whatever they call themselves this week).
Call the number given & get "no, that is up to the police to enforce".

So the general consenus is "do whatever you bloody well like... so long as a cop isn't around.

Another rule/law made that is a complete waste of time and the taxpayer's money.
