Being out on the market for a new bike sometime soon I had a go at the following:
I took a 2nd hand 1000cc ducati Multistrada for a quick test ride yesterday:
That was quite an experience! it had Staintune pipes without the dB kilers  OH my dear lordy Did that sound good!!!
I just kept opening and closing the throttle just to hear the sound!!
This thing goes like a rocketship too :spanking: and is verry solid to ride but defenitly not an adventure bike.
Its more like a Racer on high heels, or Luxury Super-Supermotard for on the street. and the odd track day?
Suspension was pretty beefed up on this one but is fully adjustable.
The so called aftermarket "soft seat" wasnt exactly soft either!!
Im sure this duccy corners like a madman tho. i didnt realy get to do that.
Found my self doing 160 around some cars on the motorway in no time... ooopps
Awsome bike but not for me I want somthing a bit more toury and Its another reason why I realy should have another Look at the Vstrom 650!
After the duccy I also testrode the "Older" single cylinder f650 BMW gs now known as the g650gs.
I have always quite liked the look of this bike but never realy looked at it properly.
When you hop on its all verry comfy!! nice saddle nice clocks good little windscreen. evrything is where its suposed to be. Sitting on the little GS reminds me of my cagiva canyon 500 but less agresive and more functional. The engine noise is a bit hmmm Alla 125cc 4stroke scooter? KRRRRRRKRRRRR didnt realy like it.
But hey Im riding this thing to compare with my old DR650se
The main thing being that its supose to have a few more Ponies!! (50? vs 43?)
I take her for the same spin as the Duc and the BMW goes ok!
This is quite a neat little bike I think by myself. Then at the next set of light I sneak past some cars to get to the front of the row and wait for the light to turn green to see how this baby accelerates.
GREEN. Well I opend her up and uhm yes it moved forward and climbs in the revs and I change gear a few times.... and concluded.
NO THANKS! I was ready to turn around and drop the bike back at the dealer.
Both my Cagiva 500 And my DR where (felt) quicker than this Beemer!
(I've "drag" Raced an even older 650 fundoro strada with my cagiva a few times back in holland and was always faster apart from at higher speed on the motorway.)
The GS is a fair whack heavier tho but then again my cagiva was up there too...
Anyway I didnt take it straight back and thought i might as well have a look to see how it does on the motorway. We accelarated on the onramp and yes we got up to speed but nothing exciting at all.
Did I mention this thing vibes quite a a lot more then the other two singles im familiar with?
Once cruising on the motorway its all quite comfy and nice and the engine tiks over nicely at quite low revs as well in highest gear (5?) so it is good for that sort of stuff.
I think it probably is a realy good bike and the sales figures reflect that.
Id like to think its sort of in between a KLR 650 and a weestrom?
But the lack of engine FUN put me off.
SO: GS650/Multistrada 0 - 2 WeeStrom!
I am gettinga weestrom over the weekend from colemans suzuki saterday avo till monday morning we shall see if I can get myself to like it!
Cheers, T :niceone:
