Saw Eddie's bike there, but no Eddie. Didn't look dirty enough to have done Fishers or 42nd. Beautiful. Friday night was a good frost apparently.

I managed to leave the tent behind, so didn't get to stay on site this time. :argh:

The panniers were misrepresented when sold to me and among other things one of the locks on the frame catches doesn't work so the straps are insurance.

You should have hung around, I believe I was talking to Aslan & co when you were at our tents.
No 42nd or Fishers, I did lead a beginners ADV ride to Ohakune domain and half of Ratamaire road on Saturday morning. We only did half the road cause there was lambing on the other half.

-8 on saturday night apparently, I'd believe it too.

Ride safe me friend You've been showing strange men pics of me. A face appears in front of me and says 'You're Eddie, I recognise the bike from the pics Joe showed me'.
Rhys loves his racks.

Too tired to write a big RR, here's the abridged version.

1) I picked Moki up in Levin and took him up Whangaehu Valley Road, he seemed to like it
2) Whangaehu Valley Road
3 & 4) We had a good camp setup with I think 11 people in total. Myself, TinLizzie, Roj, Shiny Side up, 5150 and the lovely Marta, Peachy, Wolf, Moki and several non kb'ers.
5) Saturday was a stunningly clear day
6) Slumming it at the Kiwi, freshly cooked pancakes for Saturday lunch, Steak straight off the barbie for dinner, muffins & afghan biscuits for snacks inbetween.

1) The site Friday afternoon
2) This was one nice guzzi
3) Sunday Morning dawned the same as Saturday, except for the smoke hanging in the air.
4) For our usual Sunday breakfast in Ohakune we had to try a new venue as the old one was no longer a Cafe, Ossie's, slightly up a side street behind the swiss looking place did a good feed. Big breakfasts all round.
5 & 6) After beakfast we went our seperate ways, which for me was Wanganui River Road, pure heaven.

Sorry Aslan, I was supposed to get hold of you but my battery went flat. It's your fault I went there ;)

1) I tried a few side trails but didn't find any that went anywhere.
2) We do live in the lucky country as far as riding goes.

I came up with the best of intentions, but discovered someone (naming no names) had stuffed a sleeping bag into the compression sack I use as a tent bag. :Pokey:

Was (grudgingly) offered a space in a tent with a friend (old storey from one brass monkey many years ago, but Paul's never forgotten / forgiven it.:dodge: Just let me say in my defense that it was my tent he slept in..And beer generally does have a natural impact on the gut, fermenting, and the next day some of that must be released...).

Then the numb-nuts next door fired up their generator.

So what would you have done????.

Left the site at about 4.45, & got back to Wgtn 8.15.

Other than that was a perfect day. Pity I thought earlier in the day 'I'll just get to the site early, then have an adventure ride going home Sunday'. So two relatively unexciting rides.

There's also the stories from this weekend about the XT225 whose ignition barrel siezed in the Ohakune supermarket carpark and had to be hotwired, the PD that ran out of gas 100km from home cause it only went 30km on reserve, and the unrestored, running 1922 model T and restored 1926 Model T, plus a 38 Ford and various other cars.

We were also adequately loaded....looked like we were going for a month.

And yes I know these aren't adventure bikes....but the gravel road in/out was adventure enough for me!

I spotted that bike heading south today, I'm sure it's from South Canterbury.
Here's some pics I took of it @ the March Hare Rally - it must be the same (& only) one.

Struan, can't be two of those bike around. I took the picture knowing you'd seen it at March Hare.

Eddie, is there a developing trend here?

Eddie, is there a developing trend here?

That first time was cause I'd done about 100km more than everyone else and hadn't seen a gas station in about 160km.

This time when I looked into the tank I could see a fair bit of fluid sloshing round so the tank wasn't dry, but it didn't smell like petrol. Current theory is I only got 30km off what should be about 5 litres of reserve cause the rest of the fluid was water. She has been on her side in the odd river.

At teh end of this tank I think I'll tip it upside down and see what comes out

Hey Eddie, Pretty cool ride up through to Ohakune. Fantastic scenery....only intermittantly broken by the site of cow butts coming at ya big time on the blind corners:crazy: Oh by the way Eddie I forgot to ask you ... what's the best way to scrub off speed going downhill around a tight bend in deep gravel (and staying on two wheels)? Lol.

The Cold Kiwi seemed to be a bit more quiet this year...prolly cause the freeze, and man was that cold. I still reckon Saturday was colder than Friday.:oi-grr:

Camera's thawed out enough to get some shots up. I'll get these up in a mo- apparently I need to shrink 'em:angry2:
