Ok at this time I'm changing the oil and filter of my bike. After removing the bolt, and unsuccessfuly trying to catch the bolt washer that fell in the oil drain tray, and watching as the oil poured out I noticed the oil was a dark green/black colour and in all my oil changes on I've done I've never seen that colour oil before.

Now I have no idea if there is differant colour oil out there but I supect this bike hasn't had an oil changes in a long time, would I be correct here?

differnt oil???

I dunno maybe there's an oil with an additive that changes it's colour?, I don't know hence why I asked. I aint no mechanic I just want to know if the greenish colour of the oil comming out is a sign that the oil hadn't been changed in a while.

Are you sure it's green?

What colour is the container you are emptying it into?

What oil was it?

The container is black, but I used a screwdriver to fish out the washer and noticed the oil still had a faint dark green colour.

I'm changing it now because the guy I bought the bike off said it needed a change so clearly he hadn't done a change and the bike was surposidy in storage as well.

don't worry about the engine oil turning black. It will lose it's golden-brown colour within a few hundred miles of being put in to the engine. That doesn't mean it's not working. Quite the contrary - it means it is working well. It changes colour as it traps oxidised oil, clots and the flakes of metal that pop off heavily loaded engine parts. Just don't leave it too long between oil changes.

It's normal, just change the oil.

Oh it's getting changed all right, in fact I have to shoot off to Supercheap and get me a oil filter clamp because the fucker is on real tight. And why the hell is motorcycle oil so bloody expensive! :crybaby: four litres for $70!

I assume you didn't put the oil in so not sure what type was used? Perhaps it's Motul 300V. Its bright green when new.

If it hasn't been changed in a while it would look black/green. Not a problem, its good stuff.

If it was 300V, its more like $120 for 4 litres :shit:

Well looks like the last person to put the filter on this bike tightened it too bloody tight that even a oil filter wrench cant get it off and I'm only succeding in mangling the old filter! :angry2: I may have to resort to punching a screw driver through and try and get it off that way.

Yeah it may be that expensive stuff someone here mentioned. Though when I drained the old oil back into the container the new stuff came from, I noticed the funnel filter was clogged with crap.

Could it be that coolant is leaking in there? In the case where someone uses 100% anti freeze, would that turn the oil green?

no. it wouldn't. and why would anyone use 100% antifreeze? can you even buy 100% antifreeze (ie pure glycol) from you average bike shop/repco/mitre10?

Yes you can but it wont turn oil green , thats the brand colour.
Same as some car gearbox oils are greenish and some are brownish and some are redish.
