right .. so hopefully you've all seen my previous thread (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?p=1129388844#post1129388844) about the sudden death of my friend David..

it gets weirder....

naturally .. i was in a shit mood since i found out about the accident.. i was zombie-ing around the house all weekend and Caroline said..

'nice day for a ride"

'meh' says I... couldnt really be fucked to tell the truth and i just felt... "off"

anyway .. my phone rings and its my mate Aaron , who is supposed to be painting Spooky next weekend

" hey man .. nice day for a ride..."

ahhh,... the old Universe telling me to get out there and get some air..

deal...meet you at your shop at 3

so we left Ponsonby at about 4 after giving the ThunderAce a quick birthday with the buffer and headed out the back of Titirangi up into the Waitaks...what a glorious day for a ride but i still couldnt shake the feeling ...

i let Aaron take the lead on his Duc and i fell in behind.. i was in no hurry and just content to commune with the 'Ace.. we stopped at the top at The Lookout for some coffee and were met by this fatass waiter with an attitude ..

'sorry.. closed till 630..were out of everything .."

"surley ya cant be out of coffee.. we just want a quiet out on the deck.."

'nope .. no coffee'

fine .. i'll be at your sisters house if ya need me .." ( always gotta have a parting shot)

so we saddled up and headed up Scenic drive at a somewhat mellow pace, battling wicked sun-strike and apparently fresh chip-seal

coming over the crest and headed downhill into Swanson i felt the back slide out a bit..normally not a problem for me .. i adjusted to it many times in the past..

i looked up in my line and saw a car-eating pothole dead ahead... i rolled on the throttle and cranked it over hard to try and miss it ..

did i mention the fresh chip-seal??...

Scenic dr was having none of my antics on the day and bit back.. the 'Ace plowed steadily forward in its trajectory and nothing i could do was going to stop the inevitable..stayed upright battling , although in full lock and hard on the go-fast

i hit the first curve arrow sign about 100 kph with my visor and the fairing took out the post it was mounted to, as well as a reflector post..faceplant .. the second arrow took out the rest of the fairing

i heard the 'Ace disintegrate but i held on, trying to steer out of it but i ran out of space ( just another Km and i'da had it ... )

she finally came to rest, buried about half a meter into a stand of trees.. apparently, from what Aaron said .. i was airborne for about 3-4 m and was ragdoll-ing for 99% of that ..

i came out of it with nothing more than a gas tank shaped bruise on my right thigh and a stiff neck.. i was wearing JEANS ( for all you ATGATT fags), good workboots , leather jacket and my Taxi Driver re-education gloves.. my helmet had 2 separate yellow scars across the face and the vent shattered

not a scratch on me otherwise

my brand new Thunderace however .....

pictures to follow

so.. to cut a long story short .. Spooky's birthday is on hold till further notice ...

BUT...

look for a wild re-con of the 'Ace....R1 forks, agro custom paint and a few other "upgrades" :shit: (some of you know how subtle i am with upgrades......)

Least you're ok...and as you say...gives you a chance to change your bike around a bit (again).

You don't do things by halves, do you mate!

Bummer about the Ace! Things can be fixed, bodies are not so easy, so I'm very glad you weren't badly hurt!

I've rung the depot to offer my sympathies about David.

If that'd been me the bike would be fine and my head would be buried in some tree's arsehole.

I'm digging the ATGATT comment too. I might start riding in me undies like that Gubb fella.

He couldn't have done more. The laws of physics can be mitigated only so far, but car head-on into truck is not going to end well.

My Bro-in-law was in the truck seat many years ago in a similar scenario. The driver of the car survived but the passenger didn't. Shook him up for a long time.

just seems to me the bubblewrap nazis need to invent an "ITS YOUR TIME" clock to mount on the dashboard..

if i remember correctly .. LooseBruce was in ATGATT, so was Daniel and many other casualties..

i'll take my chances personally .. you are NOT in charge ..ever..

Beg to differ. But sometimes that control does seem to get usurped. Ignore the 'voices' at one's peril, eh?

Crikey Sarge, I was enjoying that read ... until the bit when you started to mention the chip seal and ... :pinch:

I guess it takes a hell of a lot more than a curved arrow sign to slow a marine down! :sweatdrop

Glad to hear you are okay and it seems you have some ideas for the bike!

I was on Scenic Drive on Saturday arvo also, just at the time when the sun obscures most of your vision in the late afternoon. The sprinkling of loose chip is damn near impossible to see in that light and I had a few "moments" too, although nothing bigger than raisin-sized pellets in the undies.

The roadworkers must be a sadistic lot out that way. Sorry to learn of Ace's demise mate, no good at all.

this happened Sunday about 4 pm .. worst part of it was the 2 shitfaced Westie Rednecks in the van that picked me up (DOOODE..WANT A BEER??.. DOOOD .. WANT A BURBON..???.. 'HERE .. HIT THIS BRO!!)

the 'Ace aint down for long .. soon as i can source an R1 front suspension and some fairings its gonna be mindblowing ..

Mate, you gotta listen to the sixth sense.

And what the fuck?, head butting a yellow sign. Those things are expensive.

Seriously mate, stay off the bike when the voice says no. Glad you're okay, owe you a pie and a pint next time you're in Parnhell. And condolances for your loss.

Same here with sixth sense, have often thought, shit be glad when I get home for ride, get home and think to self, not feeling up to it.Usually listen, one time I didn't and had slight off, years ago and no damage to off road bike, but heeded any notions of if in doubt stay home, can ride another day.

Sounds a little over the top,but sometimes the 6th sense is worth noting.
