Does any one have experience of the difference between the Yamaha Virago and the Suzuki Intruder (250).Both seem pretty similar so I wondering if any one could spell out any obvious diffs between the too (and not just the price!:)) for me.

Virago = fierce or abusive woman.
Intruder = rubber sex toy shaped like a fist, popular in all boys schools......

but seriously though. I rode a VL 250 intruder on my learners. I can't make a comparison between the 2 but, I can tell you that the intruder was an EXCELLENT ! bike for learning on.

+1 and still riding the VL

Had a go on the Virago and it is also a fine machine but the VL suited me because I am of the larger waist size (ie, a fat bastard) and it came down to comfort.

I think you'll find as Fatt Max says, the main difference is physical size. The C50T is better suited to larger rider's as well.

Both bikes have an excellent rep for reliability, so it's really down to personal preference.

Think the Virago suits those who are shorter, seat is lower to the ground.

I liked the test drive on the Intruder, although I found it handled pretty different from the Scorpio Itook my test on (only time Iv ridden before). Can anyone explain to me the differences in the way cruisers like the Varg and the Intruder handle in comparisson to the Scorpio?

to me they are both much the same, i really struggle not to be rude about these bikes. i think a vt 250 is a far better choice.

I would rather ride my own face than a virago or (anal) intruder

Iv noticed on here that quite alot of people get that way- why is that?

i guess for me any crusier that is not a harley is a bit off, IMO they are an imitation of a harley so you might as well get the real thing despite the fact that some of the imitations may be better than a harley.
they are just not cool IMO. i find riding a crusier is reasonably comfortable but so is a vt 250, and the vt will out perform the crusier at all levels.

I had a little go on an Intruder.

I have never liked the cruiser riding position, but thought he Intruder was quite good fun.

Too poxy and small for my liking, but each to their own.

Not a real cruiser or a real anything, hence the negative comments.

IMO good looking, safe, and easy to ride.

Ideal for noobs with too much cash.

So its the Harley wannbe that does it for you?For me thats a bit of a pluscos Im not really into wearing a Southernflag-but I do like the comfort and gleam of them.

I think I get what your saying about the cost for a noob 'treat'. Thats one of the reservations I have. They are pricey and not very fast. But not very fast sounds pretty good to me- cos I am proper green behind the ears when it comes to bikes!

Other 'Vir' words...Viril/Virus/Virulent and of cause Virgina.
Someone was taking the piss when naming this bike surely?....

Just another reason why not to buy one.....dont wanna be known as limpo do ya??...

Where the hell is our esteemed senior Mod?

Edit: Mind you, Mr Virago himself is a REAL man. I've heard he's got massive testicles - like most cruiser riders. The bastard wouldn't show them to me though, no matter how much I begged him.

Bikes with a longer wheelbase (cruisers and big bikes) are more stable, thus easier to stay out of trouble in gravel or other adverse situations.

The disadvantage of the longer wheelbase is the bigger turning circle,
(they won't turn like little 250 sport bikes can).

With my VL250, I can do a u-turn in two carpark spaces without touching my feet on the ground...so its not too bad I think.

Yeah, the dealer's have come down again...at one stage they were $6995 + ORC!!!
I was real lucky to get mine before the price jumped up by $1000.

Do you think their price (from dealers) is a reflection of the exchange rate or does it change regardless of that?

By the way, what was the fastest you got out of your badboy?

I think a combination of the Yen and summer pricing.

Got up to 150km/hr (long straight, and head down) ...on a private road :innocent:

But this bike is not designed for top speeds, it's more about having lots of useable torque in the lower-mid rev range.

I'll give it a go: :sweatdrop (will use big generalizations here)

Torque is pretty much the power that accelerates the bike.

With many sports bikes, you get this power when you are revving the engine lots.
With most V-twin cruisers, you get the acceleration power earlier i.e. you don't need too many rev's.

So sports bikes are more comfortable at high engine speeds. Cruisers are more comfortable at low to mid speeds (which makes them better for commuting by the way ).

However, there is no stopping you going 0-120km/h easily on a 250 V-twin. Some may start to struggle a bit after that...

Best thing would be to try both types several times and see which suits your personality and what you are planning to use the bike for 90% of the time.

Yeah, sorry Mark, I told you they're for my good lady only.

But you've hit the nail on the head. Those motorcyclists with decent-sized genitals will invariably ride a cruiser. The laid-back, feet-forward position allows for greater comfort for those more fortunately endowed bikers.

While the sport-bike riders mince around in skin-tight rubber trousers, they will often eventually see the attraction of cruisers - when their voices finally break, and their testicles drop from behind their ears...

No experience of the Intruder, but my wife owned a 250 Virago for a couple of years... and we both loved it.
