well i fell so much safer now knowing that all thoose vehicles are now lighter and carry less kinetic energy due to money now being taken out of them by all these tickets!!
Its good to see this ticketing regime has dropped the road toll so much as well, mmmm sh2........

AND IT'S NOT ABOUT REVENUE. OK.
I guess they will have more high speed chaces on their hands, and deaths because of it.

No but it does indicate how stupid some drivers are to keep getting them :)

Well the stupidometer must be off scale if there's three times as many now. I blame the NCEA.
Anything that puts those 11km/h killers off the road is OK by me.
Funny thing though, the road toll hasn't dropped. :bs:

Seriously though, on some of your roads that would be a moderate cruising speed. Were they in any way dangerous?

It's interesting that the police generally take the flak for the traffic ticket situation when I think the policy itself is driven by the government. The police have a contract with the government which includes producing so many traffic hours. I wonder what the results would be if a poll was done of NZ Police and their thoughts on traffic policing in it's current state, I think it would lean towards the views of many on this board. But I guess at the end of the day the police on the streets do what they are told by their bosses, and their bosses do what they are told etc. Eventually it comes back to the commissioner and the minister of police and the contract. If we really want to change the situation we need to direct the comments in the right direction, which in my opinion is that little round building in central Wellington.

It all comes down to $$$$ people, one fatal or serious injury crash prevented is many times the dollar value of a burglary or car theft prevented- or even an assault, that's the way the polies think folk - and YOU voted them in.

However - statistically the odds of a stolen car crashing are vastly greater than the norm. So preventing car theft would in itself reduce the road toll.
And although a fatal crash may be more $$$ than a burglary, is it more than a rape or murder. And we are repeatedly told by the police that rapists and murders almost always start out as burglars (used to justify their DNA database). And plenty of examples where a burglary has escalated to assault rape or even murder .
It's the broken windows thing. Send the message, as the police are at present (police in the abstract Commissioner sense, not you guys here) that burglary, theft, car conversion is OK, doesn't count, no-one cares; inevitable result, young at risk people will embark on a trail of such crimes. Having received the message loud and clear that the law is a joke, and that they can get away with helping themselves, doing what they want, without any real risk of repercussions, is it any wonder that they then move on to more serious crimes (like speeding PT)

What friggin difference will my vote make? Even if the rest of the country voted for the same party I did, will it make any difference? Hell no - no Govt in their right mind is gonna turn down such a stunning revenue gathering opportunity (more commonly referred to as "Road Policing Strategy"). National / Act / the whanau, what's the diff in that respect?
If they cut down on the road revenue, then they might have to spend more of the other roading taxes on the road, and oh shit, then they'd have to find some savings in areas not associated with cars. And can you imagine the outcry when thousands of lazy ass motherf*****s suddenly have to get off the benefit and into a job?? Oh f*** me no!

The Police are supposed to be beyond political interference. At least that's what Georgie Hawkins says every time he's asked questions about their performance.

I think it's more like the police and government have a contract where the govt states this is what we want you to provide and your funding will be based on producing these results..... and then leave it up to the police to deliver. George Hawkins may say that he has no influence over police practices and procedures, which may be true for the day to day running of the outfit, but the very basis of police funding comes back to that contract so it has to have a huge influence on how police allocate resources.
If the police minister listened to joe public he could change the direction of policing by changing the contract but will that ever happen....not likely.

and thats what is so scary. how many more other crimes go unresolved/ punished because of this stratagy?? i thought the role of the police was to protect our communities, all they have proved to do is to scare the public about something as trivial is minor speeding.

i don't think penalities are hard and high enough. raise the ticket prices up. put recless drivers whom cause accidents/ death in prision, with a stiff penality.
and most of all educate people about driving etc.
driver education is shocking.
you should not pass a drivers liecence till you can ride a bike and drive a truck. then you might have some idea of the road.

Easy on the Asians man, I get to see a lot of "licences" from all over the world and sometimes have to wonder "sure they have a licence but have they EVER driven a car before they got to New Zealand?" in a lot of cases probabaly not and even if they had what kind of driving was it?
Bumper to bumper on motorways or city streets I suspect.

NO HE CHANGES WHAT HES DOING TO GET A RESULT ITS AS SIMPLE AS THAT , FUCK THE PIGS ITS UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL OFFICER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND STOP GIVING OUT POINTLESS TICKETS. Well that depends on individual doctors. Sometimes they give you the most expensive thing that wont work on purpose just to get more money off ya. Also had a doc tell me I had broken my leg once when it was perfectly fine other than being sore from a fight I was in the day before. Never did trust doctors...

Of course the Government and Police will have to get their funding from another sorce, like giving tickets for swearing (should be a lot of that because we would be all f*cked off with not being able get to work) :finger:

Bit like those signs they started using in dallas before I left. At an intersection they had signs saying that "X amount of tickets were issued at this intersection last month, don't be next." Well actually I shouldn't say that it's like those signes cause these worked. Red light tickets and accidents due to someone runnin the light did drop drastically. These were camera controlled intersections too so EVERYONE that ran the light got a ticket, even a few cops when thier lights wern't flashing.
