I was speaking to James about this on Sunday!
Unfortunately him and the wife have gone separate ways. And the farm is for defiantly for sale. He did have someone interested that has other tourist/adventure related enterprises and it is a small possibility it may remain open, but who knows.
He did say there where 76 riders there the day before, similar there on Sunday. Not sure how this, combined with farming makes financial sense, but 140 approx riders in one weekend certainly shows the need for a facility like this. Its just a farm with some of the blimming gates left open!!
Bikes are hard on the farm though, the bike ruts and nasty corrugations are still there from last year although hes has done a fair bit of laying metal in the access roads! Still the best place around here to teach people to ride though. Same time and petrol to get there from East Auck as to the sandpit and girls ride free so thats 20 bucks or so towards the gas bill.
Be really sad to see it go!!!!!!

its on the expensive side, it depends on your bike size

it would be a shame if thunder park did close, to be honest i cant see it staying open if it sells.

Thanks mate not so bad for me now as my son is working and I don't have to shoulder the whole cost for the family. Still $90 bucks for us all though? Thunder costs us $40. But might be worth a trip once in a blue moon for a change!

A run down pub in North Wales went on the market a few years ago-
no one interested. The locals were so scared that they'd lose their pub that they all formed a consortium and ended up buying the pub themselves. They found a really good manager and they still own the pub 8 yrs down the track.
It is one of the busiest pubs in the area these days and is very successful. This happened because all the people that invested in it wanted to see it work and they all chipped in with ideas and resources.(As well as keeping sales flowing haha!)
Its a shame that Thundercross is for sale. But on the other hand - how many people would it take to group buy the place? Would the consent for a bike park still be there? What else could be done with the land to generate revenue? It would be interesting to look into I reckon. KB has a lot of members - a lot of different talents and knowledge and we all share a common interest.Be interesting to hear all your views on this.

Interesting you should post something like that, that was what I was thinking the other day. As you said as long as the rest of the land can be worked and you put a farm manager in place, it could be a viable option.

it would be vaiable, but would require a big investment by alot of people, and with what it turns over as a farm and bike park it would go alright

It would be a cool place to own. What price range is it in though?

theblacksmith
10th October 2009, 15:08
Someone mentioned around the 4million mark?
Whether this is an accurate expected price or not I cant tell you. The best person to ask I suppose is the owner.
