yeah looks like they needed those turns in the exhaust to get some torque back maybe.....

I wondered about that spiral ( hurricane ), my guess is no piston slap, Fuel Injection & clean air will combine into one helluva responsive engine. Though getting rid of the spiral would surely be a good thing, though maybe it'll stop people sitting on the seat for to long :), or it's for winter USA to give you a heated seat ?.

The other cool part is the rear suspension, I wonder how much diff having freedom to position the shock where they wanted it will make, danger / rob ??.

It's not really new even for Yamaha...the reverse cylinder TZR250 of the early '90s was the same. And that was nicknamed the 'reverse seizure'! I think the rear angled cylinder will make a difference in the handling but not as much as the new husaberg with the crank right up close the the COG. I do hope this moves to the WR's the follwoing year though...and the 250f's if it works out.

some really good photos on www.motorcrossactionmag.com

also interesting yamaha have dropped their own 5 valve heads, they did it with the r1 a few years ago,

Nice bike but its 5kg more then the CRF thats a big differance and yes i am comparing both with fuel etc in them. Should be interesting to see i have never liked the overall feel of the yamaha no matter what bike i ride, keen to test this one.

Interesting! lots of new stuff, great looking bike, very sexy.
Be interesting to see how it all goes together. The first year usually brings forward any wear and tear issues with a new design. Increased compression, wider bore, short skirt piston?? But love the way they've turned the engine around, lowered the tank etc.
Hopefully this direct injection thing with 2strokes will take off and we can see them race against each other again!
Looks like we might see a lot of innovation in the next couple of years from all manufacturers.

Anyone know what price they are going to be selling at..? Air filter up under the seat reminds me of the old Husabergs.

Also remember the ill fated Cannondale 400. It had a similar layout. All the reasons for it sounded good but the bike bankrupted the company before they got it competitive.

People will buy it i think it has a RRP in USD for around 7-8g. You know the old saying what wins on Sunday sells on monday and with James on it id say it will be winning.

so to get the air filter out you have to pull the fuel tank and seat????

laserracer
9th September 2009, 15:57
$7990 us$ for blue/white and $8090 us$ for white /red
i think the tank pivots up so you can service the filter, but the seat probably has to come off. I was talking to a yamaha dealer this morning and he said theres a couple of the 2010 yz 450 demo bikes doing the rounds here in nz

With the EFI plug in tuner, Top teams could end up with remote tuners, One guy sitting back in the teams trailer monitoring things and changing fuel mapping etc depending on what part of the track your on.

How do you stop it ??, a smart person would put a gps onboard & use that :).

Im fairly sure youd have to have some sort of comms device to change the maps on the fly from a remote location that would be easily identified by the race officials

BUT theres nothing to say you cant have a switch on the bars with a few different maps loaded already for track sections etc,Bit like the vortex setup but the number of maps could be increased,I cant wait to see the day average jo can get in and "tune" there bikes themselves hell im gueesing you could find a few more horses just by tweaking the factory settings and you could even change the bike to suit your riding style and even make the engine more reliable for trail riding etc

Fuel injection opens up so much more options with tuning etc
Bikes shops WILL be buying dynos if they dont have em already

They do this with moto gp but they are limiting it. I think the next thing your gonna start seeing with FI bikes at factory level will be traction control, launch control, anti wheely etc etc

I think last year the world SBK yamaha factory team used GPS adjustable suspension for different sections of the track. The suspension fluid has metal particles in it that can be adjusted by magnetic fields. This changes the viscosity of the suspension oil effectively upping the weight of the suspension oil in an instant.
I think using this for MX would make much more difference than remapping fuel injection on the fly. I think it was banned for worldSBK after a season though.

That's pretty high tech !!, I would have thought a small stepper motor on the compression/rebound(hi/low) would have be pretty nifty for MX/SX.
