After chatting with one of the track owners, they've put a very hard surface down which will tolerate bikes after only a short wait, but I dont think cars will be on it for a little while...

Does that include the oily parts of the bitumen being leached out? Isn't new seal slippery in damp conditions because of that?

Great news! Can't wait to scrub in a set of slicks on that surface!

That's probably going to still happen. Needs some hot days and some heavy rain to clean it up.

We can hope.
I think that with the amount of money tied up in the development, there will be pressure to have the place working sooner, rather than later.

How can you say that? You have Ruapuna, and it's closer to the city than Pukekohe is to the D'Auckland CBD.
Or Hampton Downs.
Or Taupo.

And I love Ruapuna [and Levels in Timaru] but the Californian superbike school will never be here, and by the look of it the surface will not be in the same league. How-ever, you are right, I moan too much. Ruapuna is only 20 min away from my place and is a good course[and I was at the HAGD on saturday!]

There's only one area I can think of that looks dodgy, and it would require a collosal fuckup to get in there (hairpin). I'm not concerned. The runoff at puke and hampton just dont compare.

All over the upper NI track day riders and racers are getting excited.
What I like about Hampton Downs
- they built it with a Northerly aspect so it gets all day sun.
- they built it on a Northern slope so we're sheltered from Southerlies.
- it looks like an exiting well designed layout with good support spaces.
- it'll have proper toilets.
- it has CSS. :woohoo:
Unlike other tracks where we lose days to rain we may also experience being "fogged" out.
I can imagine race day starting with racing being delayed for a few hours for the fog to lift.
When it lifts a little, enough to race, you'll see the bikes and cars whizz by the front straight before disappearing into the fog down the back of the course.
Should be surreal losing sight of the race and seeing the riders re-appear out of the fog.
I can't wait. :rockon::scooter::sweatdrop
I wonder;
- who'll be the first to drop a bike.
- who'll be the first to gouge the track.
Personally I think they should allow slower riders on first so we can hold the track record for a lap or two.:sweatdrop

Who'd of thought a lil' strip of seal could look so fuggin' good.
How are they going with selling, occupying the apartments? They look great perched up on the hill there and I can just imagine sitting out the front there on a sunny day, bar fridge next to ya, as Stroud, Jones and Shirriffs head out for the last race of the Nationals with 2 points separating all 3 of 'em....

The apartments were sold out long ago, but some do come up for sale occasionally (now that the track is just about complete i'm sure there's money to be made by the private owners!).
Two lifestyle blocks left apparently.

Well I'm doing a Dorkland mission tomorrow so I think it's only fair that I do some scouting (I have to find out where the entrance is for track day in November). I'm not even gonna give a shit if it's raining. I'm getting out of the car and having a look. Photo's will be taken (even if I have to steal a high-vis)

Or you could just go on the open day they run once a month and wander the track or contact them and organise a group. How hard will it be to get a group together. "Post on KB, with date and time and limit to "x" number."

That's a mainlander for you. Hampton Downs is between Auckland and Hamilton. Hanging out in Taupo may make it a tad hard to watch the races.
I just had images of you booking accommodation in Taupo, riding up, unloading and then asking directions from the front desk on how to get to Hampton Downs track.
"Okay, head out onto SH1, ride North for 209kms or about 3 hours. There is a big sign that says Hampton Downs, turn left off SH1 and you're there." :innocent:

party pooper - I was getting all amped up to do a stealth can't-see-me mission. Got all my black gears out and shoe polish, even made me a mix tape with mission impossible theme.

Forget stealth, see how far you can wander in by looking like one of the lads.
Better still print up some fake looking local paper ID and wander in on the pretext of a story.
When you succeed or otherwise post up the story.
Is it Pulp Sport that keep trying to smuggle beer into grounds with different disguises?
Of course if you get a trespass notice and track ban, remember, it was you who wanted to use the "unofficial" channels.

Pit lane is still not sealed but I can assure you that the rest of it is and it is great. I rode it in the wet with brand spanking tyres and it was still quite grippy, which considering it is new seal that is great news. It will only get better from here.
I will be riding it again on Sunday so hopefully it will be dry and we canm have some real fun.
