I have just got my learners after completing the BHC in lower Hutt with Roadsafe and I am in the market for a commuter learner bike. I think I have narrowed my choice down to either a Yamaha Scorpio or a Suzuki TU250 Volty. I suppose my question is which is better. Obviously the styling of the Suzuki is cooler than the Scorpio but the Scorpio looks like a nippier ride. I have yet to test ride these as like I said I have just got my learners so feeling a little intimidated by the prospect of a test drive.
Which of the 2 would be best for the commute from Lower Hutt to Wellington City on a daily basis.
Basically what would you buy?

I'd go for the Suzuki, but forget the volty:sick: and go for the TU250 tracker, way more betterer styling, and still has that GN250 reliability and parts etc.
Just my opinion tho.
I understand it can be a little intimidating if you haven't really ridden before to go have a test ride, but at least go in the bike shop and have a sit on them to see how they fit you, have a chat to the bike shop guys/gals and tell them what you're after.

I would go with the Suzuki too. I've seen alot of 2 year old Scorpios around Wellington that don't seem to be fairing to well in terms of corrosion around the engine block, header pipe, muffler, handle bars etc....they may be owners that don't care that much but i've seen too many that don't look to great after a year - 18 months.

It's got the GN250 engine!
TU250 Volty's got the GN250 engine!
Go for the Yamaha 225. One vote for the Scorpio.

The Scorpio has skinny tyres. I'd be asking how much you weigh. If you're real light the Scorpio could work well. Other than that I'd go for the Volty. They're bullet proof and easier sellers.
My wife is 45kg's. I'm 99.8kg's. I took the Scorpio for a blast and the Volty. I decided on the Volty for a number of reasons. Having had the Volty for about a year I'd make the same choice again.
As it happens we're about to sell the Volty as she moves on. So we will have a low km all black one for sale. I've just been too busy to get around to listing on TM.
If you're interested PM me.

I hate to say it, but I've been a little unimpressed with my (now 2-year old) Scorpio's corrosion resistance. I've limited the damage with regular dousings of Inox Lanox, but in a few more years she's going to be looking a bit shabby.
I can't comment on whether the TU250 is better, though.
