Just wondering if anyone here runs a shorter Acerbis or similar tard front guard, gonna be racing mine and road riding it as well as adventure stuff.

Like the stumpy look of the tard guards but wonder how much function may be lost doing adventure riding, any input would be well cool.

I reshaped my original one a bit by cutting about 10cm of the front and shaping it a bit more modernly. I think I did have a little more spray from the front wheel comming up but didnt hit me other wise dude its only 4or 5 small bolts to change it over. 2 minute job

The Acerbis and UFO 'tard guards go fine but there's just more mud/water thrown around.

I use a UFO front guard on my DRZ400 when motarding, cost NZD55.00 from Superior motorcycles christchurch. They are functional but I get a bit of a forward rooster tail in the rain. Head light catches most of the water so it's not really a problem.I found the stock guard catches to much wind at speed and buffetts around making the front a bit light etc plus the smaller front wheel looks a bit lost with the stock guard. I just swap them over with the wheels, it's only 4 bolts to loosen

Have used both, currently got the big std one on though as I was getting too wet on my ride home from work. You could see the spray in the reflection of the the headlight, heading out from the end of the guard, forward a little bit, then up in a nice arc straight onto my chest:crybaby:

Looks better that he standard mud flap though, so will probably refit in the summer:woohoo:

If I had 17' rims I wouldnt even think about the std front guard. I HATE seeing those great big fenders on dinky little wheels - just me?:angry2:

I cut my spare guard down on the DRZ400. Looked cool, but as soon as it rained, I got covered in shit. Haven't put it back on since.

I had an Acerbis (pronounced aah chair bees) front tard guard on my XT600E and in the rain the spray off the front tyre would get blown up and over the guard and into my visor, very annoying so I put the standard one back on.

so a short tard guard wasn't a short turd guard?

Looked like I was covered in turd after that run over the Gentle Annie on the RRRR. Thought I was following too close to the bike in front, so backed off....backed off some more....and even more. Once I was about 100 metres behind I realised it wasn't shit from the bike in front, it was from my own fooking front wheel. :bash:

Monstaman I run one on my DR ,yes as per other comments you do get a bit of
spray back from the front which mostly goes on the headlight , I run my OE guard for winter and in the warmer months run my Acerbis one (see my albums for pixs ). With the small guard you get less front tip flaping around in wind and with the shorter back with bigger cooling holes more air flow to motor.
Only takes 5mins to change between guards, i have 1x new one same colour as mine left.

Cheers.

Have only run a tard guard on the 650 after having the shit scared out of me in a cross wind on the 450 . plus the bike looks silly with a big guard / small wheel , in winter I have to wipe the mud off the headlight regualary if I want to see at night . Gravel roads at night are a whole new game and a shit load of fun .
