View Full Version : Hamilton is boring

Springbok coach Peter de Villiers, reckons Hamilton is boring, and offers nothing to keep his team motivated
De Villiers said the South Africans would stay on the Gold Coast ahead of the match at Waikato Stadium against the All Blacks. He said there was nothing in Hamilton to keep his players entertained and believed apathy could set in.

Three years ago, Queensland Reds rugby captain Chris Latham blamed boredom for his team's 35-17 loss to the Chiefs.

So what do you think – is Hamilton Boring?

He must prefer the excitment of his beloved homeland where he has to sleep at night behing a 12 foot electrified barbed wire fence with two shot guns incase someone tries to kill him or rape his wife and daughter while he sleeps.... Ohhh now that sounds like never a dull moment....:spanking:

See this is what is amusing... They're fucken rugby players!!! Play fucken rugby!!! They're paid to do a job, do the bloody thing. They're not paid to parade around going down waterslides and spinning in tea cups. What ever happened to focusing on your game? This is why rugby is boring now, the players are too busy chatting up Mickey to think about why they're here.

As for the Reds blaming the city for a loss, isn't that a good thing? ;) that's the plan isn't it? To make them lose.

But I digress, having only lived in 2 places, Waikato and Chch, the waikato is kinda boring BUT if you put it into context it still has what a lot of the other cities have also. Just not within the city limits. It'll still take you the same time to drive to the beach in Ham's as it does in Dork and who has the better surf?

Of course there are other examples but I can't remember haha.

You see Hamilton is actually clever. It's strategically placed itself in a rather central location to all the other "cool" places. This is so it still gets the benefit of short travel times to those places, without having to pay for them! Genius if you tell me. :Punk: I don't want to pay for test tubes of sharks, eroding beaches with pretty people, and stupidly big vege gardens. Let others pay for them and I'll take the same amount of time to get to them.

PS Also funny how only locals are saying anything about this :)

It's not the first time it's been suggested the Hamilton is boring. In fact I believe it's widely known as the most boring city in the country.

Actually no, auckland is rock bottom, everything else is measured in a scale upwards.

There is no doubt Wanganui is a bit of a shithole, Which still ranks it as infinitely better then the land of Jafa.

Well I’ve lived in a few countries around the world, they all have there up and downs. To say a town is boring you have to have some expectations of it.
If you expect to go out and have a bit of fun, drinking and dancing – the Tron has a good selection of pubs and bars all in walking distance from each other, within cheap taxi rides from hotels. It may not rate compared to wellington or Auckland, but it's safer and cheaper. It maybe full of young hot students getting totally pissed, uninhibited and rather unfussy (that must hold some attraction for a few). It seems to get it’s fair share of good bands too. It seems to hold it’s end up well for sports and entertainment.

As a place to live; in and around Hamilton is spoilt for places to relax and play sport, awesome walks and cycling, very green. Then there’s plenty of places to fish, surf and swim 30 mins out of town at Raglan, not to mention the recreation ground of the Coromandel being on our door step.

There’s no worries about flooding, tornado’s, tsunamis, volcanoes or earthquakes – that’s the kind of boring I like.

But the best thing about Hamilton is the access to some of the best bike riding in the world. It’s fantastic.

I am a Hamiltonian - born here.

At the end of the day, a place is just a place. How you want to see it is entirely up to you.
A place is what you make of it.
A place is the people you are with.

In my engineering workshop I display a big sign "I LONG FOR BOREDOM"
It is said to be good for your health to get bored. I cant ever remember being bored, close to it in some meetings.

I retired to Hamilton from Paihia in the Bay Of Islands and it was the best move I have ever made. It is important to remember that people are more important than places. You don't get bored where you have good company. Since coming to Hamilton I have made very many friends and hundreds of acquaintances.

One of my occupations in the Bay of Islands was as a locksmith. People would shift there and be enraptured by its beauty and recreational facilities. I would be called to change their locks and thus got to know them. Over half of these people shifted back to where they had come from to their friends and family.

If you friends an family are in Hamilton then that is the place to be if they are in Wanganui then there you should be and you wont get bored.

Does Wanganui still have it's slogan as "Worth the Journey"? You always have to be suspicious of a "city" that states it's worth the journey.

Have to admit, for all the places I've travelled around, the waikato would have to have some of the best riding roads around. Northland is up there of course and it goes without saying the West Coast is the biz, but for variety and close proximity to the city Waikato is the sheezel.

But alas, time for my nana nap. All this excitement is got me sleepy.

Yeah, Because you listed shopping, a picture theatre and a beach, so far your beating Patea as their theatre has closed, But their beach is much closer.

Zoo, nightclubs, restaurants, racing events, sporting events, good statium, good roads, bike shops, riding community, biker events, the hamilton gardens, easy to get around, easy to exit, middle-sized population, hot air baloons, creative groups are strong (literary, dance, mechanical, knitting), the right sized cafe culture (i.e. small enough to be interesting, large enough to be good), field days, theater, art, movies, corner dairies that sell lollies, pungent Indian restaurants AND if thats not enough hamilton is close to lots of great things, rotorua, taupo, tauranga, kawhia, raglan, coromandel, auckland...

Still a place is what you make it, if there's nothing fun in there then its an obvious point that the subject is not the boring, its the viewer.

You can't save the fallen, direct the lost or motivate the lazy.
