Most of us no doubt have been unlucky enough to get either our bike or parts of our riding kit stolen...

So what part of your kit or bike has been stolen and where were you when it was stolen?

I'm curious......

mx helmet, boots, gloves *2 pairs, roost deflector, tri stand, laptop, 120 bucks, xbox controller, in the last year anyways. Nobody's nicked my bike yet though.....quick dash to shed.....yip my babys are still there. Gear is easily replaceable, bikes are not so in that i am fortunate.

I have had everything stolen from leathers, helmet, gloves, boots, to cameras, full tool kit, socket sets, spanners torque wrench... etc... basically every thing I owned... including the bed linen

I was at sea at the time during the first Fiji Coup actually in 1987, HMNZS Wellington, came back after 4 month tour of duty flat broken in empty...

Ive had 3 bikes stolen(never to be seen again) I managed to get one back...damaged and crashed by the thieving scum. My place was burgled 4 times in 10 years and lost heaps of stuff....most valuable thing lost was a vhs video tape with 2 hours of various home movie clips taken of my kids thru their growing years....no copies...gone forever:bye:
had a car stolen but got it back....damaged. Went to Australia for 3 years and stored a lot of household stuff with friends. Most of it went missing under dubious circumstances....fuck its hard to find honesty and loyalty in this place!
Lost my wedding ring in a burglary and someone stole away my missus a year later. :bye::2guns:

I don't think I've ever had a bike or anything bike-related stolen from me.

Perhaps I've just been lucky.

It is so easy to misslay things and there is no sense blaming others for our own absentmindedness (like Hitcher seems to have)

I've been lucky but Mrs Oakie had her bike stolen 2 years ago. Apart from that, all I can think of that's been flogged is a one of those wee $10 solar powered garden lights. The universe must love me.

Years ago when I was riding a GT250X7 I had parked it at the University of Waikato and had put the helmet on the hook thingy (lift seat, hook helmet on hook, close seat). When I got back the D-ring was still on the hook and some nylon strap - some arsehole had cut the strap and stolen my helmet.
Apart from that I haven't had any bike related stuff stolen. I did have most of the contents of the house stolen in a burglary in '99 though.

Thieves suck - bring in the death penalty for the cnuts that take your stuff!

Easy choice - choose to find a woman that is not so controlling and will let you be you! When a woman says: "I love you . . . well, not the current you . . . I love the you that I am trying to make you into!". That is when you know that you HAVEN'T found the right woman for you!

That's a nasty one really, bit hard to cover with insurance.

Even with photos/movies as digital they're still far too vulnerable for most people too... Asked my girlfriends sister how they had all their photos of their kid growing up stored, 'oh, it's ok, we have them saved on the laptop'. Laptops are probably the most commonly targetted item ever and desktop PCs aren't much better. Both are still pretty vulnerable to your house getting burnt down, flooded, both PCs being hit by a virus etc. In a lot of these cases a data recovery service can't do jack either (and makes you pay through the nose for even trying).

Stick them on a $20 USB key and leave it with friends/relatives, e-mail the photos to yourself on a gmail account, pay for a proper online backup service, the key thing is get a copy as far away from your house/PC as possible. SD cards are another good option, incredibly small and incredibly easy.

Edit: USB key/SD card is probably best, don't use CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray disks etc, too hard to make them last...

I've had one glove stolen from me... just the one.

And that's about it.

I did find where the one glove went, on the hand of some very disillusioned teenager. Funnily enough, if you're not used to punching someone with kevvlar gloves, just hitting them with the leather seems to soften the blow...

While hitting them with a helmet is a pretty sure fire way to hurt someone.

Nothing riding/bike related at all stolen. A side effect of having non desirable bikes I would imagine.

True story. A couple of years ago we were at the pub, our favourite band was playing, it was a good night. We stepped outside the door for some fresh air leaving our brand new RTD's in full sight at the table by the door. This bloke walked over and picked them up and made to walk off with them. Maha stepped up to him and took them back. This guy did not even have the gall to look shamefaced.

Got burgled one night a few years ago, we were happily sleeping when some arsehole broke in and swiped wallets/bags/cell phones off the breakfast bar. We were lucky I guess they did not decide to come down to the bedroom and ask for our pin numbers. Worst thing that happened was I had $900 odd of 0900 "get your jollies" calls on my phone beofre I woke up and reported it stolen!

Moral of story, make sure you have an 0900 toll bar on your phone if it is on plan.

A mate of mine came home and scared off some burglars. He showed me some photos of what they were stealing, it was all wrapped up in a bed sheet on the lounge floor. All the usual stuff... PSP, laptop, iPod etc - but they had also taken two cans of Pringles from the pantry and a 4 pack of Red Bull. I guess all that burgling works up an apetite.

common theme that, had the same thing happen to us, heaps of our stuff in a bedsheet on lounge floor, he even also had a couple of cans of pringles, drugged up burglar munchie food perhaps.

I've had heaps of stuff stolen over the years, including walking in on a burglar in our last house one dark winter evening. I had one car stolen twice (a Mk II cortina, surprise surprise). Never got it back the second time. Shame, I liked that car.

I'm new to biking so haven't had a chance for anything bike related to go missing (apart from a misplaced jersey that I left where I park my bike).

My parents have been burgled 4-5 times up north though. A couple of times we got completely cleaned out and a couple of times just tools really, although once they raided our chest freezer and took a few hundred kgs of home kill.

We had a Japanese guy staying with us once who had just arrived and had left his rucksack on the pack rack of his bike. He went for a walk to find my parents and his pack was stolen while parked in our carport which is down a 100m driveway through bush at the end of a gravel road 2km from SH1 in the middle of the sticks. We found a trail of stuff (including the guys passport!) dropped in a field nearby, the guy was ransacking the guys pack and dropping everything that wasn't valuable (clothes etc.) as he made his way back to the main road. Pretty crazy.

Edit: My dad had a car stolen, thrashed to death and dumped as well

10 years ago my partner was spilled across the fwy. As I was heading to hospital, I passed the harley being unceremoniously dragged sideways up the back of a flatbed towy. That scene was shite enough but it was on the damaged side. I remember thinking that the airfilter/carby & batterycover all look OK. (was a sweet looking shovel).
But low & behold, when I get to the wreckers/tow yard - said original HD battery cover has disappeared. Bastards! :bash:

had my XR350 stolen twice back in the 80s/90s. First time it was stolen from outside parents place (I didn't lock it). Got a call a few weeks later from the cops to come & pick it up. They caught some dickhead riding it at night with no lights. They had wrecked it a fair bit. I fixed her up & it got stolen a few years later from a locked garage. Cops caught em again (for speeding initially). Turned out to be someone i knew (a mate of a mate), so we had to pay him a wee visit.

I have heard of a similar tale - a mechanic had people borrow tools and not return them, so he bought some pink tools to use as loaners, since then when he loans tools they are always returned to him.

Mate was at Cherry Island in Taupo at the cafe. The bike was parked over the other side of the footbridge and while eating we heard a splash. Went and looked and some asshole had thrown his helmet and gloves into the Waikato river. It had gone downstream by the time we got there. Mate had to go and buy a new helmet to get home.

Had my home broken into about three years ago and stuff stolen (laptop, camera, bits & pieces). I lived on my own at the time so it was a bit disturbing to come hiome & find the door smashed in and all my clothes strewn around the floor with great muddy footprints on them.

The nice policeman came around the same day and I showed him the footprints all over my clothes to help him catch the offender. He said, "This isn't CSI madam!" LOL

Also had a holiday bach broken into and they took everything including every stick of furniture, my gumboots, plastic buckets, right down to the last bar of slightly-used soap. I have never seen a place look so empty!

A couple of weeks ago my brother's car was stolen fromoutside my place. It was found up the road a couple of weeks later with the brake hose cut.

I had over half of my Bonsai collection stolen a few years back. A few days later the cunt came back to steal the rest and was disturbed by the dog and I got a number plate. We had been on holiday the first time he came onto the property, dick was useing his wifes car. Anyway reported said loss to Mr Plod who duly showed up five days later at the perps house.............needless to say not a sign of my trees.

Thirty odd years of work went into this collection and disappeard overnight.

I still get realy pissed off when I think about it.
