Great ride today, great weather and excellent company....even you AJ!

The ride didn't start particularly well, with StoneY having some technical difficulties courtesy of a rear axle not done up tight after a stint in the shop...which I won't name (but StoneY might!) Lucky I chucked a crescent in my toolkit though and we had it semi serviceable in no time...enough to make it to Quasi's house and fix it properly anyway....Really Quasi, it wasn't just an excuse to come over and drink your beer!

Good to meet up with you guys and thanks Quasi for the hospitality!!

See ya on the road next time...may even be a 300th tag reunion!

Hey Guys, was great to catch up and what a perfect day for riding. AJ and I headed over to Riversdale at 8am, then meet you guys at the top of the hill, then after you all left, rode the twisty way to the Gladdy for a coffee. Chatted with a myriad of other bikers all doing the same thing, then twistied it back home again. Glad you all made it home safely and get your thinking caps on the the 300th catchup:rockon:

Certainly was a great day in the Rapa. My partner and me went to Cape Palliser (in the car). Was absolutely beautiful weather.
Didn't see as many bikes as we thought we would though. Only 2 or 3 passed us over the Taka's and we passed them as they parked up at the top. None between Featherston and Martinborough. There were prolly around 30 - 40 bikes (only guessing) on the square around Toppy's just before midday. On the way to the Cape a couple of HD's came the other way and that was it.
By the time we got back to Martinborough the place was dead.
Not a bike to be seen. That would have been around 4pm. What time does Toppy's close?
The trip back over the hill was a drag. Huge queue of cars. Oh to have been on the bike.

Mate, I bet you were gutted to be in the cage with the weather the way it was! Don't know when Toppys closes, but we left MartinB about 3ish and it was still open. Was farkin beautiful ova there eh! ...hopefully a sign that summers on the way! Bummer you missed the ride, hopefully you make it out next time.

Hahaha.
Great news - no more two for one deals as the Buell is back (well nearly, - the part is on its way).:niceone: Anway - everyone was starting to depart Toppys about 3.30 when we went past - guess they wanted to keep moving while the road was still warm. Absolutely awesome day to ride and great company. Cheers Guys.

im having real problems getting used to the short levers i put on my bike, its really hard to get a good launch (as you probably noticed at the porirua lights)

so whos up for a ride this weekend???

Getting a good launch on the R6 is a bitch too. It does not have much welly below 8000rpm but after that it goes apeshit.

Yes, I really struggle with that front wheel sometimes. There has been a time or two when it didn't come down straight after a shift into 2nd or 3rd and I have had a little tank slapper. The R6 has no steering damper.

I would love a ride this weekend if the weather is decent.

How about a 700km ride?
Going for a ride with Wuzards on Saturday, through the Wairarapa back roads to Waipukurau, across to Woodville, over the Saddle track, around the back of Palmie, across the Pahiatua Track and back down to Welly through some more back roads.
See tread here: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=105790

"How about a 700km ride?"

Enjoy the 700. It's a bit too hardcore for me. A gas tank or so's worth riding is more my cup of tea.

KrazyGixxerBoy

Wish I could go on the 700km ride but unfortunately it doesnt fit in with my other commitments. Will have to stick to one tank rides as well.

Depending on how I feel in the morning, I may join you StoneY. Been off work since Wed due to cold and chest infection but starting to feel a little better. Going stir crazy being cooped up in the house all day. Poor dog hasn't had a walk since Tues.
Gixxer is in bits at the moment. Stripped her down to give her a proper clean as I'm putting on the new chain and sprockets, plugs, oil, brake pads. Even dropped the swing arm and rear spring out to get the chain off rather than splitting it. That allowed me to clean everything underneath.
Unfortunatly, with being laid up in bed for the last few day's, she is still in bits. So If I'm out, I'll be on the CB.

Yeah! I decided to go visit a mate in Carterton for coffee so headed out Glastone way. It was too nice a day not to be riding. When I got to my mates house he wasn't in so just headed back around the back roads again. Bumped into a group that I knew on the back road and ended up riding with them. Eventually headed back to their place to talk shit. Didn't get home until 8:30

Pulled out this morning when I got up at 5am to jump on the bike and found it was raining.
Wasn't too keen on travelling little used back country roads covered in moss and shit in the rain on worn out tyres with little thread. Even when the tyres were new they were absolutely useless in the wet.
Come replacement time (in the next couple of weeks) I'll be fitting something a bit more durable and street use friendly.

Mate I have found my Michelin Pilots pretty damn good- (as you saw my fronts wearing even BUT its a wider and more rounded profile than yours)

Last bike I had of the weight yours - (my GSX600F Katana) I used BT45's and they lived longs and prospered on the hill- not a pure sport tire but gave me far better wear on the lighter bike and stuck real nice for the 600

KGB has one on his front too I think?

Nah, I'm running a BT021 on the front and a BT015 on the back. Had BT021's all round but the front outlasted the rear. Picked up the 015 cheap and it's pretty good.

I've always sworn by the Diablo Stradas. Not super sticky but good enough to get your knee down on the weekend hill runs but durable enough that they stand up to the highway riding...

Pfffffft.

Best time of day up there in Summer is 7:30-8:30 am. Might have to wind it back an hour this year, thanks to Yellow Line Man.

You can leave early, have morning tea in Pahiatua and be home for a late lunch and still get some chores done, then have a BBQ.

That's a Sunday.

None of this rotting in bed stuff.

Sheesh.

Morning James. How you doing. Up to usual stirring I see  Are we going to see you on any of the rides this year? This is a good crowd of people who are not interested in using the hill as a race track. This is purely a social ride with around 6-7 like minded individuals. Try coming along and judge for yourself. You may be pleasantly suprised. And yes I agree, getting up there early is the best option but unfortunately, not everyone has the same flexibility.

In my case James mine allows me to disappear anytime I like- shows in the tag stats- but sadly Sunday Mornings are always the 'kids' so that's life.(mine anyway)

Back when I got the duke I went to Castlepoint at Dawn to get pix like these- left at 4am and rode over 150kms of cowshit covered crud roads in the dark and wet to fluke a sun break at sunrise -

Its not lack of willingness man its real world commitment to life

See all the cow poo on my bike? lol

See you on the hill if you come along dude

It's not "flexibility", I'm lucky enough to have married someone who isn't two dimensional about familial responsibility, plus I know when not to disappear.

On the other hand. Some people just want to spend time with their kids rather than taking off on what is, let's face it, 'self indulgence'.
Everyone had different priorities Jim. If everyone was the same, life would be boring.

but sadly Sunday Mornings are always the 'kids' so that's life.(mine anyway)

Sounds to me like you have your priorities pretty sorted to me. Nothing is more important than family.

Hey! Sorry I couldn't make the ride guy's. Looks like you had a good day. Been feeling crap all week and the balance wasn't 100% so didn't think it was a good idea to go out on two wheels. Sat in all day looking at the weather thinking, shit, I should be out there.

Never mind! Daylight saving here we come YeeeeeeHaaaaaaaa!!!!!!
