Pre BBQ Ride 3/10 Levin - Welly - Masterton - Palmy

well as per the "Other Thread" (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=104747) regarding the BBQ 86GSXR is organising and Monamie is Hosting, and keeping the traddition of a pre BBQ ride, this one will be a loop to pick up riders from other districts who want to do the ride & attend.

Be leaving Levin around 10am, down to wellywood (picking up any riders fr Otaki, Kapiti) to caltex at base of Rimutaka's, then over to masterton for a quick bite & pick up another 5 riders who are coming.

now depending on riders experience level & how my arm is holding up may see if the faster riders want to do the back roads of Alfredton, and the slower group can do a wee flick just out of Masterton & meet up at BP Paihatua, and a quick stop for supplies then over the track to Mo's place ..

if you plan on staying the nite, plenty of floor so bring a sleepingbag,

and since riders coming near & far will be a most excellent nite .. who is in ??

Bumpity bump

well now less than a week to go & wow its shaping up to be a great wee ride with a fantastic BBQ & get together that nite - long term forcast is looking great on sat :clap: .. may be a bit wet sunday .. but then the forcast was for a crap day yesterday & it was fine .. sooooooooooo we should be sweet

anyhow if your coming either add your name to the calendar, or pm me so I know where we are doing pick ups & stops .. this is going to be a cruisy type ride with a TEC,

I can advise Otaki, Waikane and pram we will be doing slow rolling pick ups and be stopping at rimutex for refueling, & a break for the palmy riders before heading over the hill :) (so for those riders I can send a text as we are about to leave Levin so you have some idea of timings)

Once I confirm where we are stopping for lunch & by thurs I will post up the full ride plan :) so get ya sleeping bags ready for an awesome nite :wari:

Awesome Eugene, I live on the back road between levin & shannon so figure with palmy crew coming down I will just park bike outside home and we will start off from there :clap:

I'll keep an eye out but don't worry about waiting for me, my timing estimates can be quite terrible (I never time anyting while im riding, so I never know how long it takes to get anywhere :weep: ). I'll either see you at yours rather early, or at levin, or somewhere along the way :woohoo:

depends on what part of welly your coming from but usually a hour 20 gets me from my place to pretty much anywhere in welly and thats usually puttering along (with odd bursts of speed) :lol: either way eugene your not going to miss the convoy and we are doing rolling pick ups along the way, just between Otaki & Te Horo, Waikane and pram (mobil) so if your running late just pick a spot & wait for us .. I will toot when we go past :nya:

Mark has family in Palmerston North he has not seen in many years, so the plan is to make our way down during Friday, spend Saturday doing a bit of a Maha nostalgia trip in the place of his birth, then head up to the BBQ :2thumbsup

ok meeting at my place and leaving 10am sharp :scratch: where do I live you ask .. well coming down from shannon you will come down a hill with passing lane going up the other side and at the bottom is the museum and cafe (Clydesdale cafe) you then head down a relatively long straight with a slight rise over a bridge (you better be braking at this point) as my cottage is just on your left. so thats State Highway 57 or as we know it Arapaepae Rd and my place is 50 mtrs south of Heatherlea East Rd.

there is enough room to park the bikes out on the road (some ppl do not like my ski ramp of a driveway for some reason) :niceone: I will have my black bandit parked outside from about 9am and may be one or two other bikes already parked there .. can not miss it .. if you want to google the address to get your bearings pm me

so after leaving 10am sharp we will head down towards welly .. :ride: road legal speeds & trying to keep the group fairly well together doing rolling pickups just sth of otaki, waikanae and pram Mobil .. once past pram (on the passing lanes) I will fall back to TEC status & we will head over piecock hill can regather at the lookout (not a major stop) only caution here is to watch the "tar snakes" they can be rather slipperly if wet. do another regather at pahatanui and head over haywards turning left at the bottom, at the lights keep going left and follow the road til you get to the Caltex garage arriving by 11.30am

we will do a refuel for those who need it, and 30 min break welly riders will join in at this point .. then head over Rimutaka hill, I understand this is now all double yellow lines (from other thread) so could be a slower trip,

regather at the summit and down the other side at featherston.

we are then heading to Caterton and "Wild oats Cafe for lunch & meeting Masterton riders here approx 12.30-1pm .. will do a bit of debrief and see what the conscenus is on doing the back roads via alfredton or if slower riders want to spilt & do the deviation outside of masterton & wait for the others in Pahiatua

just to be aware if you have a smaller fuel tanks you may need to refuel at Caterton before we leave. :sweatdrop

alfredton will be a 20 min break at the school to regather & get everyone on the right course to head to pahiatua

pahiatua meeting/refuelling at BP across from where you will exit alfredton way.

heading to pahiatua new world for supplies before tackling the track & Mo's place .. as you come off Pahiatua track you will turn right and 50 mtrs or so down the road is a safe place to regather.

All I ask is that ppl ride their own ride, and leave your ego's at home. This is a cruisy type ride but feel free to ride off & have your fun .. just do not be tempted to twist the wrist to keep up with someone else who is blatting off if you can not ride to their ability .. :yes: We will have some newbie and 250 riders with us

It was a great day for riding and had a good bunch turn up. We had fun. Dont know about the rimas was abit boring going down the other side.....those poor cars :lol:

Well it felt great being back on the bike .. after the wee ride a few weeks ago I wanted to have a wee blat :clap:

meet up with Kanny on fri & flicked back from palmy. So sat morn rocked on & good catch up n laxing start to the day before taking the bikes up the top of driveway waiting for the others to arrive Maz & Busted, The Duck01, Rottiguy, Gingin .. a few teasin texts to Sinfull and it was off to Te Horo to pick up him as well.

quiet flick to waikanae & low & behold passed Eugene & Vanessa, so waved out & carried on to Paekakareki hill lookout a few mins later they arrived as well ..

Certainly got to put a few Sugi pointers to work on paekak hill .. what a diff :niceone: regather at base of hill & had great wee blat following Busted 2 up with Maz :clap:

then meet the partners in crime at rimutex, Balzy & Red :wari: & break before takling Rimutaka's, now with a wee bit of wind warned will be a few gusts coming down the Featherston side .. but I had a minta ride to the summit :shutup: hung back from the main group & made sure Kanny & gingin were on the way before opening the throttle & absolutely not one car in front of me .. totally fantastic to have the road to myself, it was play time yet again

stop at summit when Eugene kindly offered to balzy & red to take the "green Sail" on the back of his bike :clap: .. prob wise as I had visions of Red doing a bit of parasailing on the way down but with no attachment to balzy :laugh:

a few good gusts but nothing like later in the day & rimutaka's done .. off to caterton for lunch .. Perfect timing for Al & Carmen to turn up .. they had only just arrived when we got there

food & drink done, so quick convo about the route home & forwent the Alfredton loop & decided my other favourite road Mauriceville loop coming out just before Eke .. :) ohh & look its GSVR arriving .. now a even doz riding

once i had made sure the tail riders were heading in the right direction it was time to open the throttle & see how the tendon would hold up .. gawd I love this road and great to feel things clicking together, must have been the music

anyhow between eke & pahiatua the wind really let loose & a few "interesting moments to be had" .. 3 riders turned off at managamarie for a bit of a hair raising ride I hear ... the rest of us hit Paihatua BP & New World for Fuel & supplies.. again a bit of discussion about the route to Mo's .. & knowing what the wind can be like, but decided a HTFU pill & just get through it .. just prior to Mangamarie turn off watching Kanny in front just about get blown to the other side of the road & bikes really needing to lean into the wind to make any kind of headway .. this wind was worse the what the taka's dished out .. but still "interesting & invigorating" ride to be had

so off to Mo's to unwind & get to say hi to puppies before the party really kicked off

Thanks to Kanny for making the long trek down from Hamilton, alway great seeing you babe. Hope you enjoyed your wee tour around the lower north island .. a few more roads to explore yet :)

sorry i didn't make it... but i just could'nt trust the bike's charging system... went for a test ride over the hill... hoping to "meet up" but no-one in sight... had stoney and quasi and co in tow....and i had to get the buell push started from hooter's...:bash:.... got home to have the electrices compleatly die at my gate.......
