Some one please clarify this, it seems a bit stupid to me.
Q. You are riding on a suburban street and a large piece of timber is immediately in front of you and there is NO ALTERNATIVE but to ride over it. To keep control you should:
a) stand up slightly on the footrests and keep a straight course. (the correct answer right)
b) accelerate quickly over the obstacle.
c) swerve and go around the obstacle "HOW CAN YOU THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE BUT TO GO OVER IT... which means this is obviously not the answer... there are so many like this...

My answer would be b, to accelerate quickly and pop a wheelie over the obstacle. Halve the number of wheels = halve the risk.
Don't try this at home though, I heard you're not as skilled as I am.

It's one of those questions with a retarded answer that no one in their right mind would pick. Makes the test so easy and is why there are so many idiots on the road.

Immediately in front of you?? that would indicated that either your not looking up the road, view maybe be obstructed by rush hour traffic so your speed will be slower than normal and riding over it will be the safer option....or....the bugger infront of you has a insecure load, and you have no option except to ride over it anyway...there is oncomming traffic to contend with
the worst thing you can do is brake suddenly...
Another option is if its a insecure load and you have been looking for a new bike hmmm well .............

(A) but on a cruiser it is very hard to stand up even slightly....without a death grip on the bars..Yeah but you dont need to stand up on cruisers, because you have cotton wool for suspension. ;)
I made the mistake of swerving around an obstacle that I should have run straight over, and I assure you the correct answer is A... Gravel, grass, gutter, culvert, AIRBORNE!! Not nice. If there is any question about it, and time is evaporating fast, just run it over and deal with the consequences of that, rather than with the consequences of leaving the road.

Of course the answer (they want) is A.
In real terms, you should employ A with a small dose of B to lighten the front and allow more suspension travel to absorb the shock.

Honestly if they are the lowest cd... why should they be allowed on the roads... scary thought! They are toys.. but also lethal weapons... I think the road toll is a obvious reason for bad laws, and licensing rules! ah age old story tho... now late for class :(

There's a railway crossing I go over quite often out west a bit. It's quite high - ie raised well up off the rest of the road level...
I always stand up and fang shit out of it when I go over it....lots more fun that way...
Then there's the humpy bridge out on Pokuru Road.....mmmmm...you need to keep your weight back a little if you jump over that one...no, I'm NOT telling you how I found out - mind ya own bloody business ya nosy bastards...

Yep. A it is. Take the rule re animals on road. You should not brake/swerve for them but drive/ride over them. (As long as it is not a cow or a horse...)Logic here is that if you drive/ride over them there will be no disruption to the traffic and it is a calculated decision so you are prepared for it.

If you got time to stand up then you got time to stop.
Is this the rule that you apply when you cant stop within half the visable distance?
Ixion
17th September 2009, 10:26
The correct answer of course is to pop a quick wheelie to get the front wheel over, immediately followed by a stoppie to get the rear over. Sorted.
(how do you stand up on the footpegs of a forward control crusier?

Mmmmmm...I doubt that, in all honesty. Having been through emergency stopping drills, I can assure you it is NOT instantaneous...(although certain KB members can stop from 60km/hr in TWO METRES!!!)
I bet I can stand up quicker than I can stop...even though me knees are fucked...

Have you never done multi choice? There are always one or two questions obviously wrong, and two very possibly correct. You really only have to choose between the right one,and the one that sounds plausible.

Oh and did you know you can't park on the road if you are able park off it.
I think they should be taking the tests

I have sat tests that make it plausible to sit them, but I rate this up there with the old real estate papers... even a dummy could pass... !

That surely is a little prejudice ... IT should be mandatory that all drivers sit a defensive driving/riding test... and I mean when sitting your car licence, you sit a theory test for bikes... as well... I didn't know a lot about bikes before I read the road code... even though I always gave way to the smaller vehicle... eg: bikes...

I would write a letter to the minister of transport ... and get him to define "large".
I would go A also, but as the law requires us to travel at such a speed as to be able to stop within half the clear distance of roadway ahead of us. This situation will (should) never occur. ;)

I was riding at 100k/h following a car at approx 2 seconds behind. The car passed over a piece of timber. There was no way I knew that the piece of timber was gonna pop up. I had under 2 seconds to do something about it. Did not manage to go around so had to go straight over. Luckily there was no nails.
So yep, can happen.

I'm not sure, everyone's going for A.
I just reckon if your looking up the road far enough, travelling at a good safe distance behind any vehicle infront of you, you should be able to see that bit of wood in the distance even if it means turning off on any side road before hand.
It doesnt matter if it adds kilometres to your trip the best way to survive is knowing how to avoid trouble. <_<

The dead possum in the middle of the road. You go where you look. If you see one on the road ... look to the side (that has the most empty piece of YOUR lane) Keep staring at it ... and you will run over it. The front wheel may slide (on the skull/body) and move to one side. It will feel like its moved a mile or more ...and put you off balance.

If you can't avoid it:
Scan it for nails and other sharp objects and how it lines up with your wheels then accelerate enough to carry you over the object comfortably!
Don't stop to clear it off the road unless you can be totally safe doing it!
"They", are programmed to kill you, it's not compulsory to assist them! :shifty:
