I just bought a Motodry Sprint tank bag, and i was wondering where the front strap on it goes to? It attaches to the tank by magnets-so the front strap is presumably just there to stop it slidding backwards. But what is the strap supposed to go around?

around the steering head! or roll it up and shove it in the bag so you can get it of without a fight:niceone:

You pretty much don't need it. I only use mine when touring so people can't just walk away with the tank bag.

if it is a naked bike the wind at high speed might try to lift the bag off..maybe not so with a bike with any front fairing or screen

I have never liked the idea of my tank bag attached round the steering head. If it is going to fall off the bike I would rather it fell right off and not dangled dangerously around the steering head and associated motorcycle controls.

I cut my strap off.

Not. Used magnetic tank bags on naked bikes for years with no drama.

Another vote for cut it off here. Too much drama to hook the strap round the steering head.

I put mine on the steering head. the strap is also handy if you want to hold you gloves, sunnies, tank bag, helmet, ciggies and lighter all at once - shoulder strap :2thumbsup

Dont chop it off! That is not a good look at all. Oops sorry, I as still thinking about hospital foods reply.

Seriously though is this strap attached permanently to the tank bag? I have an Oxford one and it has clips for the strap if I chose to use it around the steering head. I dont, but I really like James duece's thinking on using it to prevent it being stolen. I ride naked and I never have problems :D

I fitted a black zip tie under the tank front bolts. The straps loops through that instead of going around the steering head.

I just tuck mine under the bag and it hasn't bothered me (at 200kph+)

When I first got it I put it round the steering stem like the guys told me but only did it the once before it annoyed me!
