So the AA offers pre-purchase inspections for cars but not for bikes ... anyone know of an organisation that does? Apart from just taking it to the local garage or whatever. I'm thinking of a scenario where you want to buy a bike on trademe that's at the other end of the country, and you can get a trusted organisation to do a thorough check on it. I don't think VTNZ covers bikes in their pre-purchase inspections either.

Best bet is to organise for it to be done at a local bike shop, ring them up organise to pay them over the phone by credit card or other means.

Other options are to have a friendly KB'r take it through a pre-wof inspection at a local VTNZ (though you'd be advised to look into what happens if it fails, the owner may not be too happy if it becomes binding).

+1, also motorbyclist. get the two of them to look at a bike together and you're sweet.

Course, they live in auckland so wouldn't be any help with a bike on the other side of the island.

I dunno about getting the local mechanic to have a look at it...I got one to do that for my FXR and the chain ended up looking pretty fooked as well as the sprocket, and the oil was nearly black. Brake fluid also had to be changed.

I recommend getting a KBer to have a look, especially if they know what they're doing
