View Full Version : New bike - personalised plate ideas

I have decided to order a new bike after all the dramas this year to get me back into enjoying something I love to do... riding.

Its a 2009 black Suzuki Hayabusa GSX1300RK9 Limited Edition bike. It is basically a standard Hayabusa but from the USA (in MPH etc) with silver aftermarket pipes, bits of bling here and there, and a blacked out rear lighting system with tail tidy.

To give it a personal touch I am pondering personalised plates for it... any ideas? Spent ages on the PP website and thought some of you might have a few good suggestions.

Cam.

What about EXUS, BUSK9,TOSTR - all available.

I guess it would help if you gave us some ideas of the sort of thing you want to portray?

Why not just stick with a regular old plate and get a custom surround for it?
That way you can change your message whenever you feel like it?

Ironic, but you could consider "TOAST"... How about "2FAST" ?

Saw that exact plate on a crappy jap import car in Wellington years back. Needless to say he got a lot of the attention he prefered to avoid.

Just out of interest do the surrounds actually fit bike plates... they are a fair bit smaller than car plates. Anyone know?

Sorry to spoil the fun, but I just don't like personalised plates. IMO - They're a bit tacky.

BUT - You new bike sounds like it will be well worth a photo shot, so do put a few shots up for us.

Back to numberplates that I really donot like:

'3M TAE' is available. Looks great in the mirror as people look to see what that awsome machine was going the other way.

Or even 'UY KUF'

Best not to ever leave the bike unattended!

Message plates can't be for bikes either, but you can still make your own message by black tape etc.

The bike deserves BYCOP,BYMOT,BICOP,FOCAM,anything suggesting speed and law breaking, along with evading the cops lol.focam-FUCK OFF CAMERAS.

Ideas.....

K9 ME for both the bike year K9 and its also the code police use for arrest.

QKCAM for my name.... although I ain't that fast.

BLKK9 for the colour and year.

Any ideas? comments, favourites??

Does "TOSTR" really read Toaster to you or is it too cryptic?

Given that this bike is not the only one like it in Auckland - I viewed the original first - and mine (still in its box) is to be customised in the next few weeks - its nice to give it something to make it a tad different from the other bike which I believe has been purchased this week.

Yes they fit. I have bought a black one, with nothing on it, got a signwriter to cut some words out, and stuck them on. Have bought a chrome one too, for the in laws Hog. The black one has room on both the top and bottom. The chrome one has a bigger area on one edge only.

Are bike plates - when personalised - different size to car plates?

When I last looked at the order forms for personalised plates they didn't seem to have an option for choosing whether you wanted a car or bike plate.

Yes they do have the option. Once you choose a plate, it goes to another screen that indicates what it is for and the sizes involved. Cars, bikes and trailers all being different to eachother.

I dont see much point in mirror plate ideas as they would be hard to see going the other direction in a side mirror... and probably at a speed to high to read easily.

Given bikes dont have front plates visible from larger rear view mirrors, it kinda pours water on the idea.

I really don't understand the only 5 for a bike. Its personalised so already doesn't fit in to the "standard" and cars can have less than 6?

Bureaucracy.

I thinks its more to do with the fact the plate is already considerably smaller. 5 characters is still readable on the smaller plate. 6 might be a bit of a squeeze.

Absolutely thought through. I have had one ticket and cant afford another one depending on what I decide to pursue for getting back into work.

The plate is more for a point of difference. I'll be keeping my speed down from now on...

Are personalised plates for bikes smaller than for cars?

At what point in the process do you get to ask for the plate to be made for a bike?

They have the size on website,i.e also the euro style for mercs, bmws etc.

There is part where it asks for type of vehicle IIRC.

Don't do it, makes finding you easier as personalised plates are easy to remember at a glance. People who may want to remember it, thieves, people you may piss off by being on a bike whilst they are in a car, police (heaven forbid) and finally guys who want to abuse you for being a homo poser with a personlised plate... Invest that money in trackdays (I need to do that) and or some flashy gear. All the best :done:

Simple... registered to a PO Box, house is like Fort Knox, I make no enemies of the police, especially being an ex cop, and I don't care what people say. If people want to call others homo's, then that their personal problem.

I'd like a plate that makes the bike a little more personal for me, not anyone else. The hard bit is picking what plate! And yes I intend to make a few track days :) (see you there??)

Enquired about a plate for my Ducati last week.
They told me it was offensive or racist.

Then got an email back a few days later saying it might not be, but I'd have to buy it first before they confirmed it.

It was WOG SS. For my Ducati SuperSport.

I can see why some PC tree huggers may be offended, but really, its just a laugh at my bike make, nothing more.

Come on mate, the good coffee is worth the gravel ride (er... slide).

I decided on the plate "BUSA 1" something more generic and related to the bike itself rather than me personally. Makes it more marketable too if I ever need to sell it (hopefully not... I just need to start working again!).

By the way, the weather here in taupo is awful.... no fish biting yet.
