Went over to Welly yesterday in the car and on the way over and the way back on the rimutaks was amazed at the idiot antics of some of the bikes on the hill.Dont get me wrong i'm no square but came up a passing lane and heres an idiot on a bike with a pillion out across the double yellow line in our passing lane in heavy traffic heading at us:shit:. We missed them but thats just an example of at least half a dozen bikes doing the same in different spots on the hill. I dont like what they've done to the Tuka's either but man some of these twats need to wake up before theres more casualtys on the hill. Not to mention the shit rap we get from joe public.:no:rant over.

But I thought that the double-yellow lines would have magically stopped all that?

The real question here is, what the hell were you doing driving your car in the motorcycle lane?
Plenty of dumb shits on bikes out there.

Na they dont stop bikes but they do stop leprechauns. I saw one accidentally drop their pot o gold on the other side of one and couldnt cross to get it.
He ended up throwing potatoes at passing vehicles, drinking copious amounts of guiness and then tried to fight a road sign....was quite embarrassing. As for the pot o gold, well it was picked up by the gubbermint I reckons and promplty used to house 13 ministers who went to auckland from wellington to get back massages.

Wow was that your first time on the Tukkas? Everytime I venture over to the beautiful Wairarapa whether it be by bike or car I see at least 2 numpties doin somethin stupid on the hill.
Like the time some total mensa candidate on an RSV coming in the other direction missed me by a millimetre cause he was accelerating too hard out of a corner. BTW if I ever find you out on the road Mr RSV you'll receive from me free of charge a nice liberal application of my boot up your ass! I'd say beat you stupid but it looks like nature already took care of that one for me.
Now what was I saying? Oh yeah, Hill=Clown magnet.

I was curious because you seemed to be marveling at the stupidity which I thought was common place. Your right, it is getting worse.

Not saying that this is one of these cases... sounds like an idiot move...
But:
Step 1: add double yellows to a wonderful motorcycling road..
Step 2: Increase furstration of motorcyclists who know there are PLENTY of places they can safely pass that are now double yellowed..
Step 3: Do gooders will now complain about "mad motorcyclists crossing double yellows"
Step 4: Police waste LOTS of time following up said complaints!
An enhancement to road safety overall? I doubt it!

Ah yeah i agree and decreasing the number of passing lanes is crazy but no this was not one of these cases, this was total stupidity.

It's not just the bikers getting frustrated with the yellow lines & deletion of passing lanes. I was following a cage up the Featherston side. He was so preoccupied with the 2 bikes in front of him that when he was half way along a passing lane he pulled out to pass them, right in front off me! No indication, no looking in the mirror. Worst thing was, he didn't have enough grunt to pass the 2 bikes. Finally looked in the mirror, saw me up his pipe & gave me the finger! The cunt.

Double yellow lines are an arse.
When ABS was introduced, people were found to go faster, brake later and harder. Somehow ABS means I can be a bit harder and take more risks and the technology will save my arse (wrong).
The problem with double yellows (a bit like a traffic light) is it lulls opposing traffic into thinking "no-one will be on my side overtaking as this is a double yellow". It makes cagers more lax, some bikers see it as a challenge to boost their mana...
Of course I have no statistics to back up my claims... just a hunch. Time will tell....
One thing we all know.. idiots will always be idiots.

Have the Rimutaka's been double yellow lined the whole way or just here and there? I'm going to be riding up that way next month, will be quite keen to see the debacle:laugh: for myself.

With a fresh shiny white line on one side and two fresh shiny yellow ones on the other, it`s kinda feels like doing a computer or playstation game when flipping through the corners.
Although if you arse off there`s a bit more involved than just hitting "replay"...

Even with double yellows, you can still pull over if cars are banking up behind on some roads.Had a truck unit do that, pulled over I still passed him with only drivers wheels hitting the cats eyes, barely crossed the line on other lane, did anyone else pass? Two,and a line of 8 or so cars behind

I went over the hill yesterday, going over was fine but coming back a few guys passed me over the yellow lines I passed some cars but keeped to the inside of the lines but the thing that pisses me of the most is the cars travelling at about 45-55ks with cars and bikes behind them and not pull into the layby's to let them pass its frustrating and leads to dangerous passing ,I abused some trollop who was doing about 40ks yakking full noise to her friend not caring what was behind her, nice v 4 prilla passed me which got me smiling again.
