Page 16 of a 32 page report released by AA, sent to all MPs and Road Safety Co-ordinators in NZ, where it describes "The failure to achieve 2010 Roadsafety Strategy Goal has cost us more dead than the Battle of El Alamein"

"MOT has speculated, (in the Safer Journeys public consultation document) that unmeasured (Blood Alcohol Content) values may be different, but speculation should not form the basis of policy."

AA uses a conservative study suggesting that drivers with excess EBA have driven at least 87 times, there is another study that shows first timers have driven 200 times.

So on that note, like AA - also failing to find hard evidence, and complete data regarding BAC Distribution values across prosecutions, injuries and fatalities ....Lowering the limit, appears to be a misguided target, and a sugar coating of the bigger issues that need to be tackled.

B.A.D.D would however, support a REVIEW into lowering Blood Alcohol Limits, (with which evidence will need to be provided with data from NZ drink driving stats - prosecutions, injuries, and fatalities) and continued focus on issues of prevention and re-offending, where there is insurmountable evidence within NZ drink drive stats.

And todays front page Herald (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10598593)...More reference to missing drink drive data.

"Speed contributed to 127 road deaths and alcohol to 119, but the statistics do not show how many crashes were caused by a combination of the two.

Neither do they show how many young drivers in fatal crashes had excess blood alcohol levels, although those aged 15 to 24 accounted for 42.5 per cent of drink-drive offenders."
Alcohol Health watch were quoted as saying young drivers get "the message" and it was elderly drivers at fault.

What idiots fail to recognise when comparing present statistics to past ones is the massive increase in population since. No one does per-capita these days. Fuck you media.

I wouldn't solely blame media with statistics, and definately not per capita issues...don't assume that many groups haven't picked up on a lack of full data available, media have taken note too.

Population increase is also discussed on the AA "Saving Ourselves" Document.

"We may have to face the unpleasant possibility that NZ's population has out grown a land-transport system largely developed 40 years ago, when NZ's population was a third (1,500.000) smaller and traffic densities far lower"

The document is bloody good, but I couldn't upload the whole thing, it's 32 pages - 3 megs. Too much for KB!
