hey guys,

Im moving over to auckland in november and I am considering importing my bike so i have it over there. Can anybody give me some information on whats involved with importing a used bike (in terms of official documents/taxes etc etc)

As long as you basically have the bike clean, disconnect battery (and tape up terminals) and drain the fuel and have proof of ownership (registration papers and bill of sale) it's pretty straight forward, especially from your part of the world. Just make sure you have a good freight forwarder.

When you clean the bike remember to clean UNDERNEATH THE FENDERS. That will make MAF happy and you won't have to have it steam cleaned.

We're being invaded!

Thermoman was on here a few weeks back and now we have Cooperman!

I imported my bike when I came over and there really was nothing too it; so long as it has been cleaned and certified as having been cleaned (by anyone including you).

For the record, I've brought two bikes over the years and both for sentimental rather than financial reasons ('03 Harley and '01 Guzzi). There's no real saving to be had after you've factored everything in. If you're not attached to the bike just flick it off and buy again once you get here.

Good point, especially in the case of the SV650 as they weren't particularly expensive in NZ. That is of course unless the bike has sentimental value to the OP.
