View Full Version : Prostate cancer checks...

Current medical advice is that all men over the age of 40 should have yearly prostate exams. This comprises a trip to your doctor, a rubber glove and, hopefully, some lubricating jelly :shit:

Apparently this is the best time, as biologically at age 40, your sense of shame has gone.

Honestly guys,

is your manhood so threatened you'd have a problem with this?

I'd rather have someone's finger up my arse occasionally for a second or two than face life (or death) never being able to use my dick again for the purpose it was designed for.

its when the doc puts his other hand your shoulder that you should be worried...

Got my blood tests all booked for November 3rd. The whole works.

3 days after that I'm booked in to the doctors for the physical exam.

I'm 53 years old that month and havent had a check for 9 years.

The doc told me the blood tests can only give an indication as to any problems and will give a start marker for any future changes.

Have you had a check up? Unfortunately I'm at that age where I'm not eligible to have a "poke". BUT from what I've been enlightened with, it ain't 1 or two seconds! They have a good old feel around.

But what amazes me is that they haven't come up with a less "intimate" way of having a check. Chicks have a machine to make a booby sandwich, and we get a finger up the jacksie (just using the comparison of the similar cancers)? Granted it's the best way, at the moment, to do the check, but surely there's someone bright enough that create a machine that can x-ray ya or something.

Shit, then I'd have a check up every 6 months just like 100% of the male population. And that's the truth! Make it no fuss for the patient AND the doc and you no longer have issues with guys not going.

Why do chicks not like having their woman bits checked? Same reason, private parts are just that. Make that less violating as well and you're onto a winner. No one says woman are wimps for not getting checked out.

Of course, I'm not smart enough to invent such machines but I'm sure, with all the smart buggers on here, they should be able to come up with something.

The blood test is not always accurate and can give false positives and false negatives. Sorry guys the best way is the finger up the rectum. Or a biopsy of the prostate. Also done up through the rectum. They can feel for any bumps lumps and size etc, which cant be done by xray. Just like women going for a pap smear, no better way of doing that either.

I have, and I can confirm it is indeed not a big deal... and I can also confirm 1 or 2 seconds is EXACTLY what it was.

No one says woman are wimps for not getting checked out.

I beleive the charge would be more of being insecure than a wimp. Guys just need to get some perspective - we're talking life or death, we're talking about an issue that affects a HUGE proportion of men as they head toward old age... and that has a really high cure rate if found early... vs. a non painful procedure that I can understand some find uncomfortable... for 30 seconds

At the risk of quoting a TV Current affairs show as an authoratative source, they definately reported that this blood test gives the best idicator yet of one's true risk profile and will even work before any other symptoms can be found.

You should get a base line PSA blood test taken at 40. When you go for regular check ups it will be taken again, but nothing beats the trusty physical examination.

Honestly, I dont understand what the fuss is about getting a finger up your bum for a little while.

Try being a woman! The PAP smear test is not exactly a pleasure to have done, trust me. If you were into the kind of kinky sex where your bits are stretched wide open and peered up, under a bright light, then scrapped with a friggen stick to add an extra bit of spice, you just might enjoy it, but it is not something that is particularly nice or comfortable either physically or mentally but we still go and have it done. For addded measure some of us of a certain age go and get our poor boobs squashed flat as a pancake, while the person responsible for the :pinch: of the process calmly walks behind a screen and tells you not to move! MOVE!!! You have got to be bloody joking, breathing is enough of a challenge.

Honestly some of you men are pathetic.

No apologies for the content of this post either, just go and get it done any of you that are 40 plus! Then do it as often as you are advised to!

Hi I had blood tests done and they have a standard figure of 3 or 4 I think it was, and mine was 5. I then waited 6 months and had another blood test which had doubled over the 6 months, so then it was off to a specialist and got the finger treatment which found out that the prostate was enlarged to about the size of a walnut which is not good. the next step was a biopsy where they put a machine up your bum and fire little shots at the prostate and took 12 small samples then the wait to see if it is cancer. Luckily I was all clear, if it had not been ok they were going to take the prostate out altogether. The Surgeon told me that the number on the blood test would have to be at least 100 before it is likely to get to the stage where you could die from it. Vern :2thumbsup

The PSA test found cancer where the finger didn't. Having a base line of PSA tests made it obvious a biopsy was required. From then it was history as posted here: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?p=1129404122#post1129404122 .

Men it's a finger ffs lol.And if it saves your life what's the problem. If I sound annoyed well maybe if I wasn't so friggin pig headed and seen a doctor I wouldn't have ended up with a tumour in my bowel, and almost killing myself through lack of check-up.Not good when in hospital on operation day 17th October to have surgeon say if you'd left it longer we couldn't have done much, and probably be dead by xmas.

Actually when you've had a camera down your throat(no aneasthetic, just numbing spray)and also up your arse(with anaesthetic),you kind of leave all modesty at the door. And crappy part was prior to surgery I was given an enema, out of all the physical testing that was worse for being uncomfortable.

Having known guys with prostate cancer the overwhelming thing is the initial test is simple the waiting for results is tough. An uncomfortable test for sure, but in context of life time of good health very simple.

As nike say "Just do it" for your family and friends sake.

I went for a check up last week ,after the waiting room wait I got to see the doctor ( a Kber ),hadn't even finished our bike talk and his pager goes off,he's in his car, flashing lights on and he gone I get dressed, make another appointment for to day and Guss what ,I have to make another appointment.
That's what can happen when your doctor is head of our EMS.a voluntary service here on the coast so if you have serious accident here you will probably be glad to see him.

hahaha I guess the old man was traumatised so much when he described it. Although, mum did "trick him" into getting it done.

"Ask for your prostate to be examined. They'll just look down your throat"

"OK doc, the wife says I need my prosthetic or something checked"

"Oh you mean prostate. Alright face down on the bed"

"Ah?"

"Right I'm just gonna pull these down"

:shit:

hahah

[As he comes home] "What the fuck was that? Throat my fucking ass. LITERALLY!!!"

What I can't understand is he didn't get a little sus when he had to drop his pants. Surely that'll set off some warning signs....you'd think.

Meh - a finger up the arse? pfft...

I've had a vasectomy performed in a room full of women and a surgeon who said 'oops' when he cut a blood vessel (boy that got everyones attention) , I've had half a testicle removed to get rid of a tumour (god knows who had there hands on them then), I got a post op infection there which made me very very sick.... That time we had ambulance staff, a change of staff, emergency staff, GP, specialsit all fondling me tackle....

I work in Marketing FFS which means you have your dignity surgically removed on day 1 and I ride an old Moto Guzzi (like a brick shoved up your arse)...

A finger? Christ, I hardly even noticed when I had the check done, besides, my GP is a lady and a very nice person to boot

Nothing wrong with a "dirty Sanchez"

If it wasnt a medical check I bet most of the nay sayers and apprehensive would rather enjoy the act.

Especially if it was acted upon in a moment of high excitement.
