It will be due its second rebuild very shortly... Unless you know rebuild and service history, steer clear of it...
And an RGV is no Sports tourer, and if your mate is looking at a RGV as a first bike, suggest something different, not the best first bike at all...

imho, not a great first bike at all, they're crazy quick for a learner, and as for the k's, I'd just buy, rebuild and ride...

At 48kms I would start looking at the bottom end if it hasnt been done already. The bottom end had gone on one I brought at 40kms, and its not a cheap exercise.

Hmmm.
Bad choice for a first bike, (or anyone who hates spanners and oil), but for under 2K, if it runs alright, could be a bargin in the right hands.
Top end/bottom end..... it all how it's been looked after. Might be fine.
With a cheap purchase price, spend the extra on a rebuild sometime...
Very hard to say without seeing it.
Still not a good choice for a first bike though.
But for someone else....

if I'm right he bought it in january without a warrant, still doesn't have one.. says it all really, I'm thinking about bidding for it as parts though

What part do you want?
Would you be interested in splitting something if you won the bike?

You really have to want one of these.
Because.......
They eat money
Then when you think you have it fixed
They eat money
So you rebuild them
They eat more money.
Love em,want them all!.
CG you are meant to be SICK!.

Ahhh,forgot to mention.
If they have k's on the clock,
Then expect trouble.
Much better if no k's.

If you've been looking at the auction the question on the swingarm pivot actually tells you how hard a prang it's had, sideways forces on the swingarm (I know cause mine had it :( ) Yeah, if I get it I'll probably be keen to hock off some parts, but I do want to end up with a complete set of spares at the end of it so probably not getting rid of the parts you want CG. Rodders has a few spares by the sounds of it so if you want one or two pieces drop him a msg,

Righto, let me know if you want to get rid of anything.
I'm not needing anything specific, just hording for the future...
I thought a second set of barrels and get them replated etc for the inevetable blowup
BTW, did you have a sig about festive sparrow that makes sport in ram air duct.....
Where do you get them from?

same plan as me then, maybe we can get a few pairs together and send them away as a bulk lot? link is broken, it's supposed to point back to tonyb's original thread. a few of us have different ones.

IMHO, for a racing breed 2-stroke, 48k is high, but RGV250s have wicked 0-100 times.
A mate used to run a tidy import 10yrs ago. Expensive little bikes to run; Drank heaps of petrol and oil and then rewarded him with an engine seizure midway between Nelson and Picton.
If it's for a learner, walk on, their power/weight ratio is a quick ticket to 6 foot under.

They can be painful to own at times but they reward you with handling and performance that it will take another decade for the 4stroke 250's to manage.

well i know this says it all, but is it only on rgv or all 250 2-strokers ? i'm just curious about RGV compare to NSR (of the same year, so it'd be MC21)
which one the better bike, handling, performance and maintenance wise ?

Nope, that about describes them all really.....
A bit pointless to compare, all have their good points/bad points.
Example:
RGV VJ22: Wicked power band, looks like a reall GP bike, with USD forks etc. Prone to drop powervalves into top cylinder and destroy engine.
NSR MC21: Sliky smooth gearbox, feels much smaller to ride than RGV, powerband much more controlled.
Aprillia: Same engine as the RGV, wider front wheel, better tyre choices, updated frame, suspension etc...
Never riden a TZR or Kr-1, but I would assume the maintence is about the same.
USe good oil, change rings/pistons at xxx kms... blahblahblah

Im looking at getting a 89-90? unfaired wolf model rgv. I think this model is based on the vj21 model. Does anyone know if these models have any bad habbits? The one im lookin at has done 35k and was rebuilt about 5k ago and the powervalves have been replaced with ones from a 95 model...im going to check it out this weekend  any info on this model would be good :niceone:

From memory, they are a single?
Kind of shonky, piston to heavy to conrod or something....
I tried one, and it seemed pretty cool for an about town hoon bike... hopefully someone else can offer more...
Changed previous post for 'That Guy" :shake:

200's were singles, using something like the TS200 engine, the 250's had RGV twins, and they were japanese made, so the quality was great, unlike the rg150's.
