Ermmmm yerr - ain't nothin' like blasting past some other roaduser...

There's an old joke:

Q: What does an Italian driver like better than screaming past a line of cars?
A: Screaming past the car that's screaming past the line of cars...

Daresay it applies to Italian bikers as well...

Had a certain crazy man on his er-6 do something like that to me on my 250. We were on a 250 ride north, all on a blind corner to boot.

Was mildly impressed till i realised how quickly it could've gone pear shaped

Would have scared the shit out of me if I was the slower rider. The slower rider probably didn't see the other guy coming at that speed.

I was wiped out once years ago by some dude over taking on a bend.

Contact ensued (actually locked the bikes togethor for a few meters) and we both went for a lie down. I bet he slowed down a bit after that one, nothing like sliding along the road between a long way down a steep hill side and an unpleasant squishing by oncoming traffic around the next blind corner to give you a mortality reminder.

Call me a pansy if you like, but overtaking on bends and hills is not something I will do generally. Way too little margin for error.

I can attest to the truth of that. While traversing the motorway system in Northern Italy in the mid 90s I was doing 170kph overtaking traffic doing about 140kph and got honked and flashed at repeatedly by a Merc that came up behind me at what seemed like 100kph faster than me.

The overtaking bike stayed completely in their own lane. Why would this be a problem if a bike coming the other way did the same?

corner wasn't blind , didn't cross centre line

True, but what happens if the guy riding slower sees some debris on the road and has to readjust his line mid corner?

Would not attempt this sort of manouever personally, like someone already pointed out, the error margin is way too small.

Nothing illegal there except the speed. Nice manouevre in fact and well done.
A good rider actually.

Let the fun begin :)

Your lack of regard for your fellow motorcyclists astounds me.

No wonder you're too embarrassed to post your videos here.

The passing rider did slow down before he overtook the other... the leading bike should have seen him coming in his mirrors ... if he bothered to look.

It has happened.

And it has happened on a ride that Paul was part of.

For the life of me, I struggle to understand how someone who has witnessed the worst of motorcycling can actively set about encouraging the very same.

I was on a KB ride few years ago when someone did this in a blind corner. The guy then ended up in a ditch face planted on a tree. (I just wondered what the rush was for)

Thanks to certain KB members who gave basic medical help and another bought his van over to tow the bike.

Can sometimes scare the shit out of the other biker.

Perhaps,
Ten people can analyse an eight second video and you would probably get ten different views on it. For me though, if that ever happened on one of my rides I would have something to say if I were the passee.
If I were the passee?....look whos talking....

And can any say that neither one knew the other, and they were not riding together. A bit of a coincidence that person with the camera was there eh !!!
Maybe even a closed road ... 9 seconds of film, who knows what came before ... or after ...

I was talking specifically about someone doing the same thing coming the other way. The two overtaking bikes would pass each other.

Hmmm....I don't think it was a manoeuvre per sec. It was more like riding and ignoring other road users. Sure, technically he took the corner well and looked like a competent TRACK rider, but on the road. I think not. To my mind, a manoeuvre is more like:

1) Pull up behind at a safe distance.
2) Indicate, check clear ahead AND behind (is someone overtaking him already).
3) Pull onto the opposite side of the road, overtake.
4) Indicate back and pull in.

As a new rider, I would be fairly annoyed if I were overtaken like that on a corner. I'm looking through the corner and expect my lane to be available to me to move within if I need. I'm no going to mirror AND headcheck before adjusting my line mid corner.

Precisely.

Legends in their own lunchtimes types that think it is ok to do that sort of overtake, aren't as clever as they think they are.

That video reminds me of today's big game hunting, the quarry is never even aware that it is part of the event!

An event where skill is cancelled, according to the degree of disadvantage imposed upon the victim/subject! (I.E.other road user's)

Where and how that bike manoeuvre was carried out, was damned inconsiderate and very dangerous driving!

Gives credence to Katman's constant campaign! :brick: (hang in there Katman, so much to do, so little time!)

In the appropriate place and circumstances, no doubt it could be measured for it's value!

Very boring rant I know but that clip deserves nothing more! (IMHO) :oi-grr:
