ok so i keep my quite new r6 in the garage next to my dads fz1 when its not been ridden to keep it safe and tucked away from any stray view.
i went to go for ride today, but once i got to the bike i noticed, hugely to my discust, that there was a series of very small kitten claw and bite marks in the seats :weep: so im absolutely gutted because im quite proud of my bike, cause im an apprentise and saved really hard and bought the bike new less then 6 months ago.
still cant believe it:no:
at this stage the holes are really small, but i assume the more i ride the bike, the bigger the holes may get. so may have to consider getting them (both, yes BOTH!) either recovered or repaired.
so what do you guys think? know of anywhere that i could get these small holes repaired easily without looking rude? or you reakon wait to see if the holes develope into rips and then get the seats recovered or replaced:confused:

I would take them in to get recovered. We go to Meads Upholstery/Trimmers ... i think they call themselves here in Matamata. he's done work recovering a GPX seat for us, covering some stereo spacers for our car (in vinyl I think it was) and covering a sub box for us ... pretty versatile really, and they do a damn good job in my experience. And I think my partner is going to get him to cover his ZXR seat as well, once he's finished orking on everything else on his bike.
I wouldn't bother repairing them, for one, I have no idea how they would do it so that it would last, and besides, it would probably costs just as much as getting it replaced!!

As an interim step, throw a bit of duct tape over the holes to
A) stop them getting bigger
and
B) stop moisture getting in to the seat padding

So many pussy jokes to be had ............... :bleh:
Recover when you have the $ and make it a bit more exciting - use some colour or mixed textures.
And rub some catnip on your dads seat to keep the kitten off yours!

I would be seriously pissed off.
(and the cat would be looking for a new home)
Look at it as an opportunity to upgrade to a new Gel seat.

gutted! should definitely get a cover for it so that the cat cant sit directly on it! my car had multiple dog bites when i bought it, and we were able to get it fixed in NP so that you hardly could see anything. so im sure there is somewhere up here that could repair it so noone would know!

SNIP
Or you could PM Cajun and ask him about a quote for making a custom seat (or if you prefer a stock recover) he does really nice work. You could end up with something more comfortable with a unique look, profit from adversity! :D

I've had cats sitting on my bikes for years - lucky they have never damaged anything.
When I got the Hornet it coincided with getting a new Tortoise shell kitten - I discovered she used my brand new bike to launch herself off onto a cabinet in the shed! I promptly had a move around so she had no reason to get on the bike.
I still occasionally find her just sitting on the seat, presumably pretending shes going for a hoon!
The old cat is too old to be bothered jumping that high!
I do have a couple of deep scratch marks in the bonet of my car from one of them :spanking:
Cats eh - just what goes through those little minds!

Right now I am having trouble with the neighbours cat walking all over my bike and the girlfriends car. It is seriously pissing me off.
So if anyone has one of those possum traps I could borrow, the ones where they walk in and get trapped, then give me a yell. I'll trap it then turn the hose on the cat for a few minutes. As it is, by the time I get the hose out, the cat has run away.

Go to the Warehouse or Toyworld etc, buy biggest water pistol/gun you can find.....lie in wait, works a treat and can provide hours of fun soaking ya mates, kids etc...

You can get a very effective cat repellent from some supermarkets and definately your local vet clinic. It's not expensive and it's pretty much odourless to us so you can spray it on or atleast near your bike.

Race tape. Cure all.

26th September 2009, 21:24
If you want a temporary repair that's a bit tidier than race tape (functional but a tad fugly) Supercheap Autos have those Permatex vinyl repair kits which would be ideal for the tiny holes you're talking about.
or if they are really tiny, the vinyl repair adhesive. (See pics)

fit a fluffy, sheepskin seatcover ................ :shifty: the kitten will be lured back by the luxurious comfort offered - hopefully bringing several of its friends - and you will then have the makings of a fluffy kittenskin seatcover
- VERY trendy :shifty:

This sounds like something that the nasty vindictive black and white bastard of a cat that 98TLS has got would do....

Bugger man, I know how you feel. Anyway, take this as a chance to think of a cool material or pattern or something to get the seat reupholstered with.

Get it recovered in cat skin
My sentiments exacary, wonder what kind of coat the little minx has? When my ginga moggy goes I always thought she would make a good tank pad or a collar trim for my jacket. Waste not want not & all that. Anybody know how to cure pet hides?

If you get some tricloroethalene and soak the thing for a few seconds in it that will soften the skin -then pass a naked flame over it - woof! it will never do it again:doh:

I've always found prevention is better than cure. Ensure all kittens are appropriately stowed away from seats.

Couldn't believe seeing this thread. Exactly the same has happened to me... or rather to my beautifully upholstered Rider Seat (c/o MacDonald Motor Trimmers).
We acquired a second cat to keep first cat company and amused.
First cat didn't show any interest in the seat at all (except for sitting on it!)
Second cat has adopted seat as scratching post and ruined it :-(
Bastard!
...and it's sitting here quite nonchalant as I type, purring away as if all was sweetness and light.
There's nothing for it but to have it reworked.
"Dear Mr MacDonald...
I was wondering if you could help me. You see, it's like this....."
