View Full Version : How sensitive are ignition coils to heat??

Trying to find a new home for the two ignition coils and one option is on the frame by the radiator. They wont be touching the rad hose but will be rather close.
Will it harm them?
Or any FZR specific locations that people know of?
In the pic I'm considering 1 just above where rad hose enters frame on RHS and the other in same place on LHS.

Not very sensitive, they don't (usually) have any elecronic componentry, just some wire wound round and round.
However, there's heat and heat. They are usually plastic now, and warping could cause short circuits

As Ixion says, not too sensitive (my CBX ones are mounted directly above the cylinder head and those things put out some heat!) but as he says it would pay to check what material they are made of and if you are really concerned what about fabricating a heat shield?
Pic attached shows the coils on the CBX, the two hoses you can see are from the oil cooler, so probably similar if not hotter to what you are proposing, and even though the coils aren't stock this is the stock location.

Rad hose wont affect them.
