....and am 100% fucked after it. The longest training walk with the Oxfam team so far through Woodhill Forest. Started at 7.00am this morning (with the lost hour taking it's toll after about 11 km's , but we all made it in under the 5 hour target with no major casualties.
I did manage to get a sneaky peak at the MX guys n gals doing their thing through the forest as well as some quad bike bunnies giving it shit loads. The smell of exhausts kept me going I can tell you.
Could murder a beer now but am off them, have been for 4 weeks now. So, it's tea and biccies for now. Might have a blat if the weather stays good.
Certainly were a few bikes on the road out west....bastards...!!!

Tell ya what Max that's bloody good time you did.As a younger guy we did a fair bit of tramping around backblocks of Whangamomona area, went to Whanganui river twice, that would be a good training walk(30-40km),and bloody great scenery, and huts are good, shame it's a fair way from you guys.Nice easy going, and reasonably flat.

Are you training in the vicinity of the official Walk?
I'm training to take part in the Melb TrailWalker next year. But I have to put on a bit of weight/muscle. :apumpin:
I think you guys (NZ) are tougher then us over here.
You have a 100km/36hr goal....we have 100km/46hr one. Cudos to the kiwis. :Punk:
I do like the fact that the walk starts within walking distance to my place (a few Ks to warm-up) and traverses around this whole area.
So good luck, mate & keep us posted on the training :2thumbsup

NIce one, a fellow trailwalker,
I do 3 walks a week, 2 on my own which all up come to about 30km's then a team walk at the weekend which is anything from 16km up to 30km at the moment, we will be stepping up to a 45-50km walk by Christmas.
We are not near the course itself (it's in Taupo, about 2.5 - 3hrs from here in Auckland) but I've been at the event as support 2 years running and one of the team has done the walk before.
Hope all goes well for you with your Trailwalk mate, it;s a huge ask but well worth it.
Thanks for the note, keep in touch...:wari:

Speaking of Whangamomona, isn't the Forgotten Highway round there abouts? Hoping to travel on the trusty bandito end of next week - fingers crossed for the weather.
FM - wow! I'm impressed. Bloody good show there! And good on you for going the tea and biccies route instead of that calorie laden brown stuff (no, not that brown stuff).

[/I]brown stuff).
Sure is,goes right passed the pub,but is a must stop though.Fill up in Taumaranui as no gas for 150km until Stratford.
Be aware of speed on corners, some say 35km and not fit to go at 65km.

I'm confused, which brown stuff do you like to eat?
Good on you Fatt Max. It's bloody hard work clocking up the kms. At least you get the metabolism ticking over faster which means when it is all over (and you can keep up a basic amount of walking) - you can eat and drink more freely and not add to your waistline.
