Thats a top effort from Karl. If he keeps that up then a ride might come his way. Be bloody cool to have a couple of Kiwis racing full time like Whibbs.

Supporters tour would definately be on the cards.

Yep its Kiwi JD..... Heres the race report from Adam Reeves..

Rnd 11 USA GNCC - Yadkinville North Carolina.

Short report for this race things didn't go to well for me, ten minutes in to the race I slid out and on the way down clipped a tree with my head which knocked me around a touch.
It took me a couple of goes to get going again as my balance was all shot and I kept falling over it wasn't to pretty.
I finished the first lap out but decided to call it quits, I wasn't feeling the best, my head was a touch all over the show and I thought it'd be best if I just sat down.
So that was my day done, Karl Power and Jason Davis had a good day though with Jason coming in 22nd overall and Karl 26th and ofcourse Whibley took another win.

Race Report: Yadkinville GNCC Round 11
Rider: Paul Whibley
Team: JG Offroad, GEICO, Monster Energy Kawasaki
Bike: Kawasaki KX450f
Result: 1st

With plenty of rain falling in the lead up to the Yadkinville GNCC the usual red dust cloud was absent from this years event. Instead the importance of a good start lay in protecting my vision through my Smith roll offs from the sticky red mud.

From the drop of the flag my KXf shot me to the hole shot line first although Glenn Kearney snuck by as I ran a little wide before turn two. Glenn set a good pace early and I was happy to follow him the first lap. Rumours of bottomless mud holes in the low lying section along side the creek encouraged me to hang back a little and let someone else discover the bad lines.

I found myself promoted to the lead before we came to the creek jump after a couple of better lines carried me to the front to tackle the section of endless mud holes. We worked our way through the slop and ruts, each taking different lines both Glenn and Josh Strang took turns in the lead but as we headed towards the end of lap one I had taken control and begun to open a gap over the pack. The first three laps went by smoothly and I was soon directed into the pits for a quick gas stop.

Back out on the track things were drying slightly and I began to piece together the safe with the fast lines through the tricky section, although stray off the safe lines one bit and that could be the end of your race as the bogged bikes that littered this section illustrated. My Pirelli tires doing a great job of dealing with the range of traction available and delivering the best grip.

Josh had settle into second and was making a charge in the second half of the race. I tried to stay consistent but a couple small mistakes in the third and second to last laps cost me a little time. As I began the last lap Josh had the gap down to about 20 seconds. I pushed hard not wanting to give up the lead on the last lap and managed to extend my lead and take the win by about 40 seconds. Josh remained second and Charlie Mullins came home in third.

Whib's got third this weekend which gives him a 23 point lead going into the last race, Whib's needs to get 13th or better in the last race to win. So good Luck !!!.

Adam Reeves had a rough day with flat tires :(

Jason Davies went real well, getting 15th overall ( 9th in XC1 Pro ).

The real shocker of the weekend though is Shane Watts who's in really bad bad shape, had a nasty off a few days back, collapsed a lung & his back is not in good shape, not paralysed but pretty damn close. 3 fractured vertebrae & some chips resting on the spinal cord was what I heard.

Oh photo's to come, sitting in Pittsburgh airport, my flight has been delayed so got an overnight in DC, I'll try & get some up once get there.

Race Report: St Clairsville GNCC Round 12
Rider: Paul Whibley
Team: JG Offroad, GEICO, Monster Energy Kawasaki
Bike: Kawasaki KX450f
Result: 3rd

The 12th round of the GNCC series was held at St Clairsville OH. Last year this race was unbelievably dusty with several feet deep powder in some sections of the track. This year however rain leading up to the event dampened down the clay soil and the dreaded dust was non existent. The Quads dried the track out on Saturday and packed it down to a shinny slippery surface in a lot of places.

I got a good jump off the line but got pushed a little wide and was mid pack round turns one and two. Seen some pretty crazy crashes on lap one as some guys were getting caught out by the difference in traction on the hard pack. Through the first lap I steadily moved up and was second behind Josh Strang although he had started to make a break for it before I got into the number 2 spot. Josh had set a fast pace and I was trying hard to close the distance but was struggling.

The other Team Suzuki rider Charlie Mullins was behind me and a good race began with us changing positions several times through the mid part of the race. He got the upper hand on me when I washed the front end out in a soft turn. I got going again and was making up ground when I went down again. I wiped out after jumping the mud hole twisting the forks in the clamps. By the last lap I was getting the signal to take third place and settle for some good points.

Obviously third was not were I wanted to be but Josh and Charlie both rode great. I lost a few points to them but I am still in a strong position going into the final in Crawfordsville in a couple weeks were I will be looking to get back to that top step of the podium.

I can't see it, I think a decent living, but if you want to be wealthy go sx/mx :), Husky have 12 million in "potential" earnings available per year ( GNCC 3.5k 1st for a race, 5k for the series ).

Interestingly there were more pure spectators than I've ever seen & alot & I mean alot of vehicles parked there ( atv's are real popular & they run morning & afternoon rides ).

Race Report: CRA Hubbard Ohio
Rider: Paul Whibley
Team: JG Offroad, GEICO, Monster Energy Kawasaki
Bike: Kawasaki KX450f
Result: 1st

It definitely feels like the end of the season here. It seems like the cold weather has come a little early here in Ohio with the trees all turning bright orange and red. Its tough to get out there training, road cycling needs several extra layers of cloths and a Mt Bike the other day with JT and his mate Anthony ended in finding our way back to the vehicle in darkness.
Over the weekend I got to a CRA event near Hubbard OH. It was a pretty fun track with plenty of mud holes, a section around a junk yard and a unique start.

For some reason at this event they decided to have a mass start, one row, something Im familiar with as most of our races in NZ start like this. The other thing, it was a live engine moto type start. But the start of the race was signaled by a guy waving a hat!!! I guess he was the Official starter, I pinned it when the hat got waved??!! I hope he wasn't just an excited spectator. Anyway everybody went so I think it was the "Official" start. I grabbed the holeshot and controlled the race. Only short laps of about nine minutes but the track was fun so the race progressed quickly. A 4th gear tapped out, up hill ski jump had a small crowd gather as did the numerous bog holes that deteriorated quickly with lines going everywhere.

After 2 hour racing I took the win. It was a fun track and turned into a good bit of training.

Race Report: IXCR event
Rider: Paul Whibley
Team: JG Offroad, GEICO, Monster Energy Kawasaki
Bike: Kawasaki KX450f
Result: 1st

With the last spare weekend of the season I received an invite from Joe Halcomb to come down to Indiana and race an IXCR event. On arriving at the track with Joe I realized I had been to this venue before. It was the same place that I raced my first OMA event about 4 years ago.

The morning was frosty and cold and the sun was a welcome sight as it breathed some warmth into the still air. Watching the kids race in the morning showed the track was slick. The clay soil had been packed down hard and the moisture from the morning frost just made it so slippery. My race started around 12, thankfully it had warmed up some by then. I grabbed the early lead but found the track so slippery that pushing hard was impossible. I had my Vortex ignition on my bike and switched maps to a very smooth one via the switch on the bars after the first mile of the track. This made it a lot easier to control the big KX. I now begin to slowly build a lead but still conditions made it really tough to go fast.

The track had some fun features with the rock drop-off attracting some spectators and catching a few riders out. There was also a creek jump that provided a brief break from the slick trails. Plenty of rocks also kept riders on there toes and on one rocky slick hill I had seen a pool of oil. I'm guessing someone wasn't having a good day.

With the white flag coming out and having a comfortable lead the last lap was completed safely.

GNCC CHAMPION 2009

The past couple weeks leading up to the final GNCC seemed to take forever. After putting in two wins and a 3rd after the break I had boosted my lead in the Championship to around 23 points. So at the final round I needed to play it safe and finish inside the top 13 to claim the title.

With the wave of the green flag the final GNCC of 2009 was underway. Off the start I avoided any pile ups in the first turn and was mid pack through the first lap. There was a lot of lead changes with plenty of line options as the track had been churned up by the 500 odd morning race entrants. I began to move up toward the leaders and was in touch with the lead group when I bounced off Thad Duvall pretty hard when our different lines merged. This made me nervous as I didn't want the title chase to end right there with a damaged bike. So I backed it down some more and stopped taking any risks. I found it hard to ride at the reduced pace and ended up riding bad and making a lot of mistakes. The mud holes were getting bad but the spectators and team personnel in their bright yellow GEICO shirts kept me on the straight and narrow.

At the fuel stop I was informed I was doing exactly what was needed to take the title and keep it up. Late in the race I ended up riding with Kallib Russell and began to ride better as we pushed each other along. I ended up moving up to 4th in class by the end of the race. Securing the GNCC Championship, Job Done, Mission Accomplished. Crossing the line was an amazing feeling. Lost for words, relieved, excited and so, so happy. Surrounded by the team and supporters and getting a big emotional hug from Katherine. Awesome.

Winning the title has been a life long dream of mine but a lot of people have helped me get to the final step. Too many to mention here but I have to thank some of the major ones. Katherine for believing in me and supporting me 100% of the way. The JG Off road team, JT and Gretchen. Mark for all his work behind the scene. My mechanic Scotty and also Monty for their hard work. All the great sponsors, both personal and team. Our two Mums for coming over to see what we do.

Also in the years leading up to this point, all the people who have helped me and have shared their experience. Scott Summers and Fred Bramblet for giving me the opportunity to come to America and race. The teams in the WEC that taught me a lot, Husqvarna, Gas Gas and Paul Edmondsons' Honda team. Justin Heke for his hard as hell training programs, Richy from MotoSR. Morrie and Dan for their mechanical skills and support.
And the fans at the races for all their support and cheering me on. All the emails of support from friends, family and fans that have wished me well and kept me motivated.

All those that I have forgot to mention, I'm sorry, there have been so many in this journey that deserve more thanks than I can give here.

Race Report: OMA Final Morrison, Illinois
Rider: Paul Whibley
Team: JG Offroad, GEICO, Monster Energy Kawasaki
Bike: Kawasaki KX450f
Result: 1st
OMA CHAMPION 2009

The final round of the OMA series was held in Morrison Illinois. This race runs to a different beat than the rest of the OMA rounds. This event has a lap of around 35 miles, set out through some tough, log littered, mud hole riddled trails and connected by some flat out corn fields. Two laps was the race distance, race time was as long as it takes.

I got a good start taking the hole shot and led the first part of the lap. With the trail being so fresh it was tough to find the way as we blazed a track through the woods. The lead swapped between myself, my teammates Jimmy Jarrett and Scotty Watkins and several of the other pros. Late in the lap I managed to start a break away with Jimmy and Jason Thomas. I managed to get through the infamous peat bog clean at the end of the lap and opened up a lead.

The track was quite different on lap two with plenty of bike swallowing ruts and mud holes. Several times I got wedged in ruts and had to get off and heave the bike out. I managed to keep up the fast pace and keep ahead of Jimmy in second place. Pinning it across some of the corn fields and aqua planning over some of the surface water lying around from the weeks rain. After 3 and a half hours of racing and taking it easy through the peat bog for the last time taking the win and maintaining my unbeaten record in the 2009 OMA season, going 10 for 10.

Great way to finish out the season.
