Go online and download the official screen colour chart from VTNZ. I think you'll find that pastel shades are banned on all marques other than Hondas.

There are times one wishes that the limits on bling allowed to be bestowed on worthy posts is increased.

Yes, it is. A bike "windscreen" is not legally considered a windscreen, it is a wind deflector.

To my reading Ixion is correct. The WoF manual is available on the LTSA website - you can take a look yourself.

Any photos of the bike?Interested in the paint job...how much did it cost and who did you get to do it?

It's easy to take the screen off and paint the inside of it black with matte black paint. It looks bloody good too.

I can't imagine how it might be illegal, but I don't know. I've done two like that and they were both WOFed no sweat.

Bureaucracy.
It's all to do with what's considered "standard fitment". I've heard of bikes that are faired being failed a WOF because the windshield wasn't in place. I'd imagine some failed mechanic at a testing station could choose to fail a painted screen because it has obscured visibility.
But this is all just conjecture. I could trawl through the LTNZ site looking for it, but I'm not feeling that masochistic.

From my mech when I got my old GSXR warranted...

"The windscreen is scratched and stained I can't give you a W.O.F"

"Um, OK, how about I paint it black then ?"

"That'll do, here's your W.O.F"

His take was that if you could see through it it must be pristine, if you can't see through it you're not going to try so it will also get a W.O.F.

Odd, but fair enough... I was too tall to get my head low enough to see through the screen anyway (and the gut didn't help either)

Black FTW!

Sedge.

If it had a big crack in it they would probably fail it.

Should be OK though - just go to a bike shop for your WOF.

Hitcher is kind of correct too ....... I can purchase a Honda factory fly screen for my Hornet - in a spiffy shade of pale-anal-dripping-brown.....

Nothing a can of spray paint wont fix.

Its not a windshield that you look through, so should not affect a warrant

This is a production Bike that sold world wide With a 'painted screen', personally I think it looks a bit weird but if it's good enough for them to pass WoFs, your's shouldn't be an issue.

Pic 2 is just a gratuitous bum shot by a Duke/Duc and has nothing to do with anything. :D
