honda cb250rs... the best learners bike IMO... my toes could touch the ground (bonus!) and it was light enough to pick up when dropped... (after those times when my toes couldn't touch the ground!) and the minimal plastic bits meant that when it did go down, no damage was done! :2thumbsup

RD250LC. Which had had the 350 barrels and pistons put on. And the oil pump taken off (making it a pre-mix). Didn't try to get my license on it because of the 350 thing (should've tried anyway). Mine was rough as. It was the colour of "road-side bushes for camoflage" when I bought it, so I painted it blue with several cans of spray-paint. By the time it was sold out from under me while I was overseas, it was dripping oil from a half-arsed fix of a cracked engine case (from an incident involving a very loose chain).
Such a nice bike to ride. Comfortable, easy and "went" pretty darn well enough.
Couple years later when I came back to N.Z. I saw it outside a bike shop in town (Palmy North). Someone had fixed it up, it wasn't dripping and an oil pump had been put back on). It was still painted my blue. I nearly cried, and if I'd had any money at all...

EDIT:
What the heck; I may not have a nice pic of my CB175, but it looked pretty much like this before I fukted it.
173cc, SOHC, twin carbs, points ignition, 5-speed gearbox, drum brakes, but a lot of fun.

It didn't have a very impressive top speed, as it was fairly low geared, but made up for that with pretty good wheelies.

Quite different to the 200 "Electric" that preceded it. My friend's brother had one, and it was a trendy (for the '70s) purple paintjob, with a rounder tank than that, and one of those friction steering dampers atop the triple clamps.
mine...a yamama XT500 '79 i think it was....the shin killer she was called

I reckon in some ways the 500 singles would have been better off without those. My XBR500Rs was for some reason (lack of space under the tank??) missing the decompression lever, but was easy enough to start: fold up the RH footpeg, kick it over to TDC, then give it a kick. Started first or second time, every time, with no wrecking of shin or spraining of ankle.
There was a trend for a while in '75 or thereabouts to fit a decompression release to the spare sparkplug hole of two-stroke dirtbikes, to give them some engine braking. Made a sound like a chicken when the lever was pulled.

First road going two wheeled motorised machine, Nifty Fifty.
First road going motorcycle, Suzuki A50.

Others I can remember which I spent considerable time riding in rough chronological order...
LT50 trike (this was fun on mud!)

Vanvan, I think we had 2 of these, a 50 and a 90 from memory
Motocompo (look that up)
DR80
225DX Yamaha Trike or something like it
Famous James (stretching the definition, I didn't ride it much, it spent most of it's time in storage, originally dad bought it intended for me (you can guess my name), but it wasn't really going to be very suitable for University etc :-) so unfortunatly it had to go, in favor of...)
Honda Gyro Canopy with a mega huge box on it
CBX250 (brother's, borrowed on many occasions when mine died)
GN250 (x 2 more or less)
XV250 (first bike purchased with my own hard earned money)

I had something slightly resembling this. But mine was a few neglected years old.
The rear seat didnt have any vinyl or foam so I wired a cushion onto it!
Mind you the only person I would be pillioning would have been a mate to help me push it when it broke down ... often :(
Tis a 75cc DKW Hobby, no idea what year mine was either.
Notable engineering advancements included : Pull Start, automatic utilising a variable speed belt drive arrangement. note pic #2
Apparently similar to some ?? modern-day-car using a steel belt.
Somehow managed to swap it for something amazingly superior an electric start Puch 150!
It was all wheels and I didnt care so long as it was an improvement over a push bike!

I don't have any digital copies of my first bike, but here is an image off the net of the same colour scheme I had. I loved that bike, wish in some ways I still had it!

Same first bike, and same problem!
What was with them?? Maybe cos being a 2 stroke they were a bit foreign technology for Honda?
So I wasnt the only person with style, I only managed 110kmh before the exhaust exploded.
One of the first things I did to it, (my mate worked in a garage), we ran a blow torch down the pipe to burn off all the carbon that had accumulated over the years - talk about a war zone quality smoke screen!
