Following the announcement of Spies inclusion in the 2010 MotoGP title chase with the Tech 3 Yamaha team, it has been announced this morning that the hot shot WSBK rookie will race the final round of MotoGP at Valencia next month.
Riding as a wild card Yamaha are providing him with one of their test machines from Japan.
Veddy veddy interesting.
Me hopes he can take it to the factory duo right out of the blocks. That'll get them squirming :)

That would be optimistic but I guess stranger things have happened. I guess they will be looking at this opportunity as an extra lot of testing that Spies otherwise would not have had. Will be interesting to see if he can adapt to the 800s - I am excited to see how well Simmochelli goes against the big boys aswell. Will be a great season next year in the GP field.

Will be faster than Toseland, slower than Edwards and finish 7th. If any squirming is observed by Rossi or Lorenzo it will indicate either
a. Piles or
b. They need worming

i would think Mr Stoner,Mr Dovisioso,Mr Pedrosa,at least will disagree(assuming you mean that being on the same bike means Mr Rossi and Mr Lorenzo dont need qualification)

I think Shaun might be getting at the fact that the bike Spies is gonna ride will be a full HP bike, all the current GP bikes have been de tuned so they will last for more than 1 race.
Will the bike Spies gets to ride be the same? His won't need to last, so in theory they can unleash its full potential.
Am I on the right page Mr Harris?

Not necessarily, they may be using an engine that has already done 1 race weekend so would risk blowing it up during the race if they put it to max power! Might see some burnouts though!

I thought there was a limit on the number of motors a rider was allowed and if they dick with it that counts as a new motor, so unless they have a motor "in hand" they can't dick with it - or have I got that all wrong ?
"dick with it" = "modify"
or is it just an ECU setting like "wet" , "dry", "last race of the season" :)

There is a limit to the full time teams. A wild card entry, will allow Yamaha to give him the fastest motor they can supply, as it is only for the one race meeting.

Race aint done yet. Spies has consistantly got faster throughout the weekend, still got one more warm up session before the race.
I'd say Mr Edwards better look the fuck out to be honest.

Making just his fourth MotoGP appearance this weekend at Valencia, experiencing a new track and a new bike, Sterilgarda Yamaha Team wildcard Ben Spies performed well in qualifying on Saturday to qualify inside the top ten. Spies, who made three guest appearances for Suzuki last year, has made steady improvements in each practice session so far this weekend on the Yamaha M1 and eventually put himself ninth on the grid at the Ricardo Tormo circuit.
“It’s better than I expected this early on, with just three hours on the bike, but the package is great,” said Spies after qualifying. “The bike is great, the tyres are great, it’s just me now. I am slowly building up my faith in everything. It is not going to happen overnight, but I am quite pleased to be not so far off the other guys on the Yamaha.”
“We’re competitive, so we have to try and get a good start in the race tomorrow, get in position to follow a few people and learn what we can. But it is a case of so far, so good. Every time we get on the bike we have to look at the lap time and make sure the gap to the front guys gets smaller and smaller. That’s what his weekend is for.”
Having qualified ahead of such established MotoGP stars as Loris Capirossi, Marco Melandri, Andrea Dovizioso and outgoing Tech 3 rider James Toseland, who the American replaces in MotoGP next year, Spies will not be intimidated in Sunday’s race but he does not underestimate his opposition.
He added, “I know who I am riding against and they are the world’s best riders, who have been on these bikes for a long time. So I can understand not being higher up the grid, and the riders around me on are fast guys!”

I wonder if all this will hasten Rossi's exit.
He has pretty much said he is in it for the most wins record now.
I am not sure how many he will get against Lorenzo and Stoner.
And adding Spies into the mix, who will be pretty powerfull next year, he might be scratching. We may see him in a rally car sooner than later.
