Anyone out there keen for a ride this Saturday?
Thinking meet at Caltex Rimutaka about 10am and heading over to the Wairarapa for a bit of a go, grab lunch somewhere and head back.
I'm not a "fast" rider, but enjoying getting out and about. (not a personal ad or anything)
By the way the weather looks good at this stage (if you believe the met office), morning cloud clearing, southerlies dying out, high of 17.

Hmmm. Let's see what the weather's like. Won't confirm anything now.
Caltex Rimutaka? Just wait there. They will come.
Maybe we should establish a Kiwibiker rideout area somewhere on the forecourt, so one doesn't have to wander around introducing oneself to strange bikers on the offchance they might want to go for a ride and bevvie at the Fush...

Why the heck Caltex Rimutaka haven't built a cafe on the vacant lot next to them, I'll never understand. They have a huge, year round opportunity to become the Ace Cafe of the southern hemisphere.

She's a poor response Wellington people!
The weather still looks good, Masterton is Some drizzle about, then fine. Southerly dying out. High of 18.
I'll be at the Rimutaka Caltex around 10, depart around 10:15. I'll park up over by the air hose (south side of forecourt).

I'd be soooooooo keen for tomorrow, but had a wee incident involving getting my knee down (and hip/ankle/wrist) yesterday resulting in serious damage to my credit card. Unfortnately since I haven't heard back from the bike shop on pricing/availability I doubt it'll be going (let alone me) by tomorrow.

Don't wanna hijack bear's ride thread, I'll post the full story later, but suffice to say I lowsided at low speed thru excessive use of right wrist and no use of brain. LH clipon was the biggest victim - and my ego. Very minor wrist sprain, moderate (but I think minor) ankle sprain. Thoroughly well deserved too.
I'll be at the Rimutaka Caltex around 10, depart around 10:15. I'll park up over by the air hose (south side of forecourt).
The gas station doesn't like bikes using their forecourt as a 'gathering place'. We all do it,(OK me especially) but lets not piss them off by blocking access to the pumps and air hose and so on. Four or five bikes looks fine but by the time a dozen park up we're taking over the place. If I owned the place I'd kick those bloody motorbikes out for good. Pricks only spend a tenner. Sod off and come back with an ugly gas guzzler that uses a gallon to cross the footpath. Bikers, a pack of scumbags and crims the lot of them, covered in tats and reckin of booze and drugs. Apart from the ones on Hondas of course because you meet the nicest people on a Honda.

Thanks to petrol price increases, we spend significantly more than a tenner.

mmmmm indeed, however the petrol station makes more money if we buy one chocolate bar than if we were to fill a falcon to full from dry!!
tis a beautifull day.... i shall endevor to be joining whoever makes it to caltex

Fuck them, I'll park wherever the fuck I want. And, if they tell me to piss off, I will, their gas has always smelt funny anyway! If you all park against that back wall, it surely blocks noone. Obviously when you significantly increase the numbers it will start to interfere. Discretion is the key.
The only other option is the Tavern car park next to the service station. But, the tavern car park hasn't got any petrol pumps, or coffee machines, or paper to clean visors, or......

It's cool to have new people on rides, you shouldn't worry about being a learner. I really enjoy taking it easy on rides, and not have to worry about pushing myself. Besides, I've been told that the way I ride, you'd have to be the one waiting! (Lol, that really is not far from the truth)...
However, this weekend I shall be spending indoors, watching Sky, playing Xbox and otherwise wasting time and being totally unproductive until monday, when I can be miserable again :shifty:

Damn straight.
I thought you were going to go past a couple of times there so I think it was only the thought of me or the bike loosing a part that kept you behind me. :msn-wink:
Nice day but feel like crap now.... Some cold / flu thing kicked in coming over the piecock hill. Felt bloody awful... Meh! What ya gunna do... Nice ride, nice to meet ya!

Passed you guys going in the opposite direction coming back up the hill - I saw Flyin by the dramatic, recognised-you-at-the-last-minute waving maneouver!!! (Woah - don't think I can spell that one!)
Oh and I was hugely distressed to see that one of my favourite corners on the Kaitoke bit was being EATEN BY A DIGGER!!!! As in the whole road was being ripped out of being! It was so sad to see it as I rode along the new, sterile, straight bit of SH2. Aue aue......

Aue ha!
I had the same moment of reverie riding through there yesterday.
But I also thought - look at all the passing opportunities!

The whole world will eventually get eaten by them as transit inflicts it's poor mans motorways on the unsuspecting populace..
Enjoy it while you can..

Careful sonny, many a man has been caught out while gazing at those flowing golden locks...
The only look I ever get of them, is of them disappearing into the distance. :shifty:

Damn straight, indeed...
I am about to pen a letter to the editor of the Dominion Post, bemoaning the demise of my beloved Kaitokes.
At least the meanderthals will be able to text to each other happily for a few more km until they crash off the road at the first corner on the bottom of the Takas.

For sure was one of the best biking weekends I have had for a while and could be Winter next weekend so glad I got out. Good to see lots of bikes out and about and no major dramas that I have heard of. As for the Kaitoke roadworks, I heard they need to keep some of the old parts for access to the residents up there so lets hope they keep that in good nick and 100k speed limit and maybe if there are good connection points to/from SH2 then that might become an interesting detour (southbound) - won't be much though I suppose and could be a dead end road, will have to wait and see, or does anybody know exactly how it will be when finished?

I was in St Arnaud Thurs-Sun at the National Ducati Rally - wonderful!! (incidentally, met IDB and sbwells - both top blokes!!) That's why I wasn't around this w/end. Hamish went out on Sunday with some of you I understand. Happy to have any reports of his riding - his chicken strips on the Suzuki seem non-existent.......no names will be mentioned you understand.
Once we had 50 bikes turn up for a ride @ Caltex, which is when they asked us to move from the forecourt - quite a reasonable request given the circumstances I thought - cars couldn't get anywhere near the pumps. So now we fill up and move over by the white fence in a line, which so long as there's not more than around 20-odd bikes is fine. Sometimes we meet at the Tavern carpark after we've filled up.
Let's not piss Caltex off if we can help it.
