Because I know Balu will not likely get around to posting I thought I would just let you all know that his fatty ass burger handled the trip to New Plymouth via SH43 really well.
The weather was shite and made for some "interesting" riding, especially over the unsealed section. We came across a 'road works' sign as there were workers inspecting a boggy mud lake a few metres long. Balu's face would have been priceless I'm sure if I'd been able to see it (bandit was following him - he had the gps....). My bike came out the other end looking like a pig rolling in mud, his was surprisingly clean by comparison.
Handling wise he had no problems with it and even through the twisties out of Whangamomona it ate them up. Oh, and we came round one corner to find a cow standing in the middle of our lane..... Plenty of debris from rock slides, tree branches, etc. but nothing that was unavoidable. The burger and the bandit both coped admirably and we'd love to do it again. Perhaps in better weather though!
p.s. he did have his petrol flap come off on the forecourt of a Te Kuiti petrol station - just broke off! We got to Pussy and Gassit Girl's with me laughing at him about bits falling off his bike, until he had the last laugh pointing out to me that i no longer had a WoF or rego sticker attached to my bike......:o
