Doubt it is the $$$'s. More importantly it is the perversion of justice.
Plus a subtle message to the politicians, from the judiciary...

Yeah, you can lose your rag and pop some old geezer but woe betide you if you sneak off with a few bucks (or whatever). I think Field desrved the sentence but really, the road rage dude, whose name escapes me, shoulda got more, it sends a message to all the bullies in the world that it's ok to deck old codgers.

errrr.....no.

That also crossed my mind. The context of the crime has an influence on the sentence. But all the same, the juxtaposition of the two sentences does not look good...

Hmmm could there be something fundamentally wrong with that or is it just me?

Geez, ole FIELD must have a horrendous history...

If you only get three for killing an old fella with a history of beating up ex girlfriends and threatening to kill them... FIELDS history must be terrible!:gob:

Would be better to send him to Samoa to rebuild.... His tiler/roofer mates might be willing to give him a job...? (Especially since he no doubt "owes" them already..........).

One way ticket, just under three years labour (and it would be hard labour) and his "term" would be complete..... sorted.......

Huh? Field wouldn't be any use for such a skilled job. That is why he had to hire/bribe a tiler to do the job for him. Useless bastard.
He really does suit politics...

Nope.

He also gave two years for the 15 charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice, and the judge declared the four and two years will be cumulative, meaning that Field will spend a total six years in jail.

Interestingly, the judge made them cumulative.

This sentence was just - our elected representatives should be held to higher standards than the rest of us plebs. The three year sentence for killing that old bloke in a road rage incident was appallingly light (hopefully the crown will appeal the sentence; it wasn't one bad punch, it was a barrage).

... he gained the name of Taito, the matai (paramount chief) title of the village of Manase on Savai'i, Samoa, in 1975... (Wikipedia)
It doesn't appear he awarded to himself.
Still a thieving turd, but.

This pisses me off:

Field's wife Maxine said she was heartbroken.

Her husband told her this morning that whatever happened, she had to look up to the Lord and be strong.

"I'll be OK. We'll be OK. God will take care of us. We are so heartbroken because all this is happening after the tsunami in Samoa," she said, still protesting her husband's innocence

"The tsunami, which killed many people, and left many more homeless, is nearly as bad as my theiving scumbag of a husband, who wasn't happy with his exhorbitant salary and perk package and had to take advantage of his position to obtain more free stuff, being justifiably sent to jail"

I actually laughed out loud when I saw those people on the idiot box. One supporter (an aunt I think) said something like "Its not very good eh?" It IS good, very good, marvellous in fact, to have our representatives nailed to the wall when they get up to no good. Abusing your position makes the crime that much more serious. (If only lying cops were strung up in the same way.)

What's happened to the Thai tiler? Perhaps some of Field's perks and ill-gotten gains should go to him and his family? After all, he stuck his neck out for NZ so that a bent politician could be exposed and dealt with. I admire the guy for doing that.

Also the fact that the poor bugger was left in financial difficulty because of phillip field's actions. Wasn't the tiler forced to squat at the house since he could not afford to live elsewhere?

Horseshit!

Qouted:
DEFINITION: A CPI Score relates to perceptions of the degree of corruption as seen by business people and country analysts and ranges between 10 (highly clean) and 0 (highly corrupt). Includes police (http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/cri_pol) corruption (http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/gov_cor), business corruption (http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/gov_cor), political corruption (http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/gov_cor), etc. Data for 2005.

Based on piss and hot air.

The total lack of justice present in our cash collecting minor traffic rampage was obviously not included, if it had 'corruption' would be wildly different.
