1980 Magneto spark (lack of ) issues

So....Here I am riding home and.. glug glug.. engine stops.
Fortunatly just round the corner from home, (Lyall Bay). checked fuel, fine. Checked spark, none. Got new plug, new cap, recharged battery(just in case).
Scared myself stupid taking flywheel off with gear puller (idiot), done.
cleaned points, hopefully reset points , cleaned flywheel magnets, cleaned some connections.
Swapped over ignition coil with a second-hand spare....

and the wiring looks so simple it's embarrasing :crazy:
The Haynes is not to helpfull when it comes to the electronics, no resistance guidelines, or indeed spark troubleshooting....
Any ideas before i bite the bullet and book it into boyles?

Stick card in points, check coil wire from ground to Cap.

the wire from the coil-to-ground had burnt out! with just enough bronze to patch solder it back. sweeeeeeet... for now...

but if anyone has a spare coil for one of these... :niceone:

With points closed / ignition switched on remove coil lead from dizzy and hold 3-5mm from steel surface (Unpainted) and grasp points with finger nail and prize open and shut quickly, if spark ensues from lead to earth then fault MAY be in HT circuit. If no spark, then use test lamp to establish power supply to contact set (Points must be OPEN). Some points have plastic insulators that can melt and cause shorting. If you find that continual points flicking does get a spark eventually then it is a faulty condenser. I used to get many cars to start using this method and quickly replacing dizzy cap and starting engine!!
