Perhaps he was just making a general comment - that if you were contemplating heading out for a ride - it would be a good day for it. I cant remember the last time there was something significant biking wise, on a week day anyway.

Jim doesn't ride or he wouldn't have recommended highway 1, rakaia gorge or the akaroa runs are much better, but I concur that maybe the local bobbie needs to fill his quota;)
