View Full Version : Great Harley ride today...

There's a black Springer in Rolling Thunder at the moment. It's cosmetically poor considering it's just an '07 but I'm interested anyway. Took it for a decent test ride today (no longer buy expensive bikes based on looks or a quick ride around the block) and it was a bloody great ride. The sun and roads out Oxford way helped but the bike itself just had gobs of torque, a real 'presence', and a great sound through the fishtail pipes. Front end needs a service as it wasn't returning correctly but I can fix that. Just need to agree a more realistic price.
Anyway, got back to the dealer and the ride home on my Triumph Speedmaster was shit... Damn.
Anybody want to buy my Guzzi and Triumph so I can have this Harley? :2thumbsup

How many ks have you done on the speedmaster Molly? Enough to give it a fair go? If so, then sounds like you're not gonna be happy til you have another harley. How many ks, what price on this one?

Never understand why people shell out that much coin and don't look after them :weep:
You know you want it .......:2thumbsup
Mind you that Crossbones offer is sweet if they rattle your chains, and it would be a nice ride back to Christchurch.

Same. Mine 06 and been very poorly looked after. Paintwork scratched to buggery. Didn't worry me cos planning a custom paint job anyway. But yeah, you would think people would look after them better eh?

My 2c worth if you don't want the crossbones see what else Pete can offer you. IMHO RT are pretty pricey. Offered my mate a supposedly SWEET deal and it was shite.

Holy shit... That's a good price. There's an '09 X-bones in RT which they've put a few accessories on. Was offered it for $30k (about $3,500 under the ticket price).
I'm listing my bikes on TM tonight so hoping to have some cash soon. As the local '07 is for sale 'on behalf' they weren't keen on a trade in. Fair enough.
Rosie. I've done about 2,000k on the Triumph. It's nice enough. Handsome bike really but it's just, erm, 'cruiser-lite' if you know what I mean.

Erm, not quite, just removing extraneous material and tidying up.
I think they call it 'housework' or something.
All good now though but I do empathise.

The kids and I had a nosey at that one in Rolling Thunder today :niceone: It has certainly been injected with a full syringe of 'cool'. At that price though the Cross-Bones offer from Wellington .........
Love the smell of a new bike

Oh yes. Love the smell at Rolling Thunder. It's the smell of a pissed-off wife and a few broken promises...
Hoping to put a deal together with Pete at Wellington so that X-Bones might yet come my way. If not, I'll track down another Springer. The hunt is half the fun.

Nice. What's the plan with the fish tails?
I understand the appropriateness and look and all, but the world is full of gutters - i'd be worried about the crunching sound of destroying them absent mindedly?
AllanB
10th October 2009, 13:27
The fish-tails are a very cool addition on that bike - they even have a nice flame shaped heat shield over them. Probably very loud! They would be fairly easy to shorted if desired.
I'll bet there are already a few mods planned -he may as well as I suspect he'll be living in the new garage for at least a week or so ....:devil2:
Kitchens are over rated - it will be BBQ season soon
As a side note I like some of the finishes HD are using on their new models - there is a FB low in there - all blacked out in satin and the mufflers are done in a quite striking satin silver (satin chrome?). Not many changes in models but they appear to have upped the quality of finish for 2010.

Far out Molly. You must have one understanding wife.
Molly
10th October 2009, 17:38
Thanks for the comments.
There are a few bits on the bike that I don't think 'fit'. The flame heat shield and silly, tiny pointy mirrors don't go with the 'old' look I like so much. The tank console also has some flame feature to it I don't want. Also, going to powder coat the hubs and rims and go with stainless spokes, take off the passenger seat and sissy bar and get some throw-over bags.

Here are a couple. It's a work in progress. Had the mufflers apart today and changed the internals. Trying to keep the flow but reduce the noise a bit. bought a metre length of perforated tube and wrapped it with stainless wool. Then secured it. It worked (it is a 'bit' quieter) but not to the extent I'd hoped. Still sounds bloody nice though.
