Anyone know a good place to take my kids dirt bike riding?
They've trashed the lawn and garden with all the rain we've had, and are starting to get a bit cocky. I've been warned off the local reserves, and don't want to risk a fine.
I've thought about Woodhill, but am a little nervous as they're not experienced riders (4, & 7) and are on a PW50 & a slow PW80. I envisage them getting landed on by an experienced rider on a YZ.
I haven't been to Woodhill for 20+ years, so maybe things have changed - is it suitable for slow novice riders?
Is there anywhere else suitable?
cheers

theres a little track behind sleepyhead in henderson will be pretty wet with all the rain we have had though
kid loop at sandpit would probably be more pleasant till things dry out

There's a peewee track and a novice track at the sandpit, both by the carpark so you can keep an eye on them.

There are beginner tracks and a specific kids track at The Sandpit aka, Woodhill. (Actually called the Peewee track)
No adults and big kids allowed.
There is also a learner track for kids between age x & y. I can't remember the specific ages off the top of my head. And another track learner that anyone can ride on.
Quite often parents will follow their children around the peewee track a couple of times on foot until they are comfortable with it.
You will love it, they will love it. :)

Woodhill.
Apart from the kids tracks available there is so much space there that you can ride all day and not meet anyone else (or maybe I just get lost a lot), if I was teaching my kids, that would be the first place I would go to.

Sandpit is great for them. My kids ride there (4yrs & 5yrs). Peewee track is for 50cc & safe. My boy has moved from a quad to 2 wheels & did this on the peewee track. Next to it is a Learners Track. Another good track for the kids.
We have also taken our son on a couple of tracks whilst on the quad & also to the old carpark. He isn't quite ready yet to tackle getting there yet on 2 wheels but i'm sure wont be far off it.

The learners paddock at Thunder X is a very good place for the kids as well. You can do a 1/2 B loop if they get keen.

If you can handle a road trip or want a weekend away you could always take them up to The Farm in Whangaruru (owned by Mike Bennett)...www.thefarm.co.nz
They have loads of different tracks for all abilities and a mini motox track too. Mike is usually more than happy to provide some coaching for kids and the atmosphere is great if you stay overnight... my FAVOURITE place to be during summer. :2thumbsup:sunny:

I took them up to Woodhill, and they had a ball.
The 7 year old missed the entrance to the learners track, and ended up going the wrong way around an adult track. I thought I'd lost him for about 1/2 an hour but he turned up.
Didn't take a bike myself but will next time.

My hubby & his mate were there when you were, they had 2 boys on a JR50 & PW50 and were there when you're boy vanished, think they were on the learners track. John was telling me about it the next day. Glad he was soon found, although probably felt like hours to you, & was safe.
