View Full Version : My accident and my thanks to KB support

I've posted bits about my bin coming home from the Pissed Penguin Rally and as a bit of therapy I'll combine the details later in this thread. Mostly to help others but also cos the memory is a bit ropey and it helps to piece stuff together. It happened 2 1/2 weeks ago and some bits have faded already. I spent 15 days in hospital, long enough for three rotations of patients around me in the surgical ward.
But my main purpose today is to give a public THANKYOU to all the KB people who have expressed concern and support. I am touched by the messages and gestures which have been sent to me.

Good to hear you are back with us.
There is always concerned curiosity after such a bin.
It could have been any of us.
The number one thing I get from KB is to learn from the experience of others and avoid doing the same.
Good luck with the recovery and I hope it's not too long before you are riding again.

15 days in hopsital? You've got my sympathy! I spent 5 days in the ward and 2 in a self contained unit on hospital grounds before I could go home. Hope you get better and make sure you use the experts physio, psychologist, GP etc

Cheers guys. My opening post was cut short. I specifically wanted to thank Daffyd and McJim who visited in the first week, and Shrek and Mrs Shrek who travelled from Roxburgh to Invercargill last Monday to see me. Bloody decent of you all.
Various people also kept in touch with my family which was appreciated - not much fun for them.
I had various visitors the first week but unfortunately I wasn't compos mentis. Apparently I kept insisting it was time to get out and feed the sheep. :dodge: Tried to get dressed and go to work one night. And then there was the day a nurse caught me out of bed near the window but still hooked up to the urethal catheter........
Fortunately all of these events happened to someone else cos I have no memory of them. :D

It was a long time - the average stay in the surgical ward looked to be about 3 nights. I was not a well fellow for the first week, the head injury being the biggie. I'm really concerned I've lost large chunks of Monty Python.....

Thats what I think too. The most frustrating thing though is I have no memory of the accident. Can't learn anything if I can't remember what went wrong. In fact I'm genuinely mystified about the whole thing. All I can do is get better and think about protection from such events.
Or give up bikes - how many warnings do we get......??

Now I remember - you're the Scottish train-spotter who tried to half-inch my morphine - it's mine, I tell you, mine :girlfight:

I'm really concerned I've lost large chunks of Monty Python.....:banana:Well, if your first week sounded a bit like this, you'll be fine. Like this lot won't recite at every opportunity
Doctor: Mr. Bertenshaw?
Mr. B: Me, Doctor.
Doctor: No, me doctor, you Mr. Bertenshaw.
Mr. B: My wife, doctor...
Doctor: No, your wife patient.
Sister: Come with me, please.
Mr. B: Me, Sister?
Doctor: No, she Sister, me doctor, you Mr. Bertenshaw.
Nurse: Dr. Walters?
Doctor: Me, nurse...You Mr. Bertenshaw, she Sister, you doctor.
Sister: No, doctor.
Doctor: No doctor: call ambulance, keep warm.
Nurse: Drink, doctor?
Doctor: Drink doctor, eat Sister, cook Mr. Bertenshaw, nurse me!
Nurse: You, doctor?
Doctor: ME doctor!! You Mr. Bertenshaw. She Sister!
Mr. B: But my wife, nurse...
Doctor: Your wife not nurse. She nurse, your wife patient. Be patient,
she nurse your wife. Me doctor, you tent, you tree, you Tarzan, me
Jane, you Trent, you Trillo...me doctor!
Or give up bikes - how many warnings do we get......??Winston, give yourself time to 'heal' before contemplating a decision. No rush, just get well again.

Glad to see you're up and about again Winston.
NightHawk told me you were in hospital because of a problem with your knee. Apparently your wife caught some one else sitting on it :P
