What's the likelihood of the prices of bikes and bike gear coming down once the NZ$ stabilizes vs the US$ and old stock, bought at old rates, gets moved? Will the RRP's start coming down? If the prices remain the same, who's getting the benefit? The retailer or the wholesaler or a bit from column A and a bit from column B?

One thing's for sure, buying stuff from the states will be a whole lot cheaper!

Yeah it will be interesting, you might find pricing staying the same in view of the very weak retail sales year, retailers might see this opportunity as a bit of relief.........especially those who reduced their pricing to generate sales in this weak period of trading.

We are all supposed to publicly scold this idea while secretly rubbing our hands together with glee...

Yeah tyres should be dropping in price with the NZ strong all over. we are on a high with the pound too.

I'd say they will stay where they are as retailers finally start to gain back a bit of profit after a very shitty year. And I don't begrudge that.

I wouldn't hold my breath for NZ retail prices to drop on bikes or parts. Still much cheaper to buy parts in from the US, even with freight.

Smart retailers will take this opportunity to generate more sales and minimise the loss of local customers looking to international stores for best prices.:hitcher:

Do you think Harley might review the prices for 2010 bikes?

Well I just had a looksy at a big bike shop here in California, Del Amo Motorsports and I was not impressed with the prices. Add the conversion and sales tax (8%) the prices where more than in NZ.
You will have to do a lot of shopping online to get a good deal and then of course if the item is wrong or fails within the warranty period then you are going to have problems.
I just got a set of Mitchelin PR2 tyres and at the end of the day it was going to cost the same to buy them here by the time they were fitted (give or take $20). I know if I have any problems with them that I can return them and that i am also covered by the consumers guarantee act

I have money tied up in blighty. I cannot bring myself to send it over while the exchange rate is so shit.

Maybe I should sell up and move to blighty for a year and when it all goes back to normal ($3 to the pound) move back to Neu Zillund....

Yeap great time to buy goods from US UK if you want to/have to.

NZD won't stay there for too long, that's too strong for us it will come down. Not good for exporters.

Son of a b#&$h!

When I moved here in January and brought my savings over, I only got a mear 0.41€ to the NZD.

Now I have to convert back with this rate for my holiday in NZ in January? Talk about adding salt to the wound..

the Yen has not come back up as far, and the Euro is a lot more stable so i think bike prices will nto drop that much for most of the brands, Harley might come down you would think,

alot of gear comes in US $$, so that price should dop although it will take a few months to filter though,

Ah Yes im the same. Put everything I had into pounds when it was $2.50 to the pound thinking mean, quick 15% return, but nooooo it dropped more and more and more and more.

So common' Kiwi dollar, start failing as you usually do

Yeah, I'm happy to support my local retailers. They've looked after me extremely well! I was just wondering if the shops will benefit more now or the money just ends up with the wholesaler. Sales should also hopefully be on the up heading into summer (if we can see the sun for more than a day) and now that the recession is technically over :niceone:

Also it would be a sh*t-load faster. After waiting for over a month (edit, almost 2) for parts supply through the NZ channels...:argue::nono::Pokey::headbang::(:ar15:

It's not cos our dollar is worth anything, just that the US dollar is falling through the floor. When the oil-exporting countries move to other currencies other than the US dollar for oil, then it (the greenback) is going to fall even further.
Then stuff will get really cheap.

I wish the dealerships would learn that the rest of the world can supply faster than their local systems.:argue:

The Thing to remember also that the people supplying are exporting in the USD also and may be getting less for it on there local cross rate markets so likely they will be putting pricing up...........possibly
