I wondered often about the meaning of life and what it had in store for me and I had a notion that something was missing. I think I have found the missing link. I just needed a new Suzuki Hayabusa to complete the circle. I picked it up yesterday, it is black and shiny, it sits in my garage and it is in control.
I aim to tour the South Island this December so a pack rack has been included. Everything that has been written about the 'Bus' is true so I had better be sober when I ride.
I was able to trade in a 2007 Bandit, I had clocked up 29000 kms and felt ready for this transition. I have had two rides and so far have not scared myself and I cannot wait for the next.
It is truly a marvel of new technology, maybe I should get a black helmet?

Congrats. You may want to consider some modifications to the handlebars if you are going to use the Busa as a touring bike.

Hadn't thought of that, I did have slightly sore wrists come to think of it on the first ride - about 140 kms.

Bought mine January this year. Also went from a Bandit to the Busa. Love it and have found it quite comfy touring (less of a sore arse than the Bandit!):doctor:

Ill be interested to know how that goes for you. Ive always thought that the busa would make a great touring bike.
Congratulations on the new bike.

Anything black and shiny requires a black helmet to go with it!

Nice bike dude! Take care on it.

I would leave any mods for a month or after a few longer rides. I had real problems with my wrists and hands on the SV1000S but no problems on the Busa. It depends on your body - how tall, how long arms are etc.

I find the bike perfect for me - I did need to fit heated grips.

No, no, of course one can see at a glance that you have offered a completely unbiased opinion.... :niceone:

My own completely unbiased opinion is that the Busa is an excellent choice, second only to a Suzuki C50T for getting around on...

Sobrierty is compulsory when you have the keys to a Bus mate . Enjoy your new ride , clean it, polish it, oil it it, look at it and and repeat the look at it part. Welcome to the club mate .

Many congrats on the new ride.

Quite a change from a boring Bandit to a Faaaaaark mobile.

Good luck.

I had Bandit, was fussed on getting a Busa, took a couple for a test, They certainly are an icon of a motorcycle, and read heaps about them being good touring bikes, even with 2 up. I would put riser bars on if I was you, a little to much body weight on the bars for me, with standard bars. Ok when at speed when you get some wind on your shoulders but a bit much under 80km/hr.

I ended up with the SV loved the light weight, sound , easy to move around.
and of course cheaper.
But I would love to have a Busa in garage also.
Interesting reading on some stats out of the USA, most Busa riders had previously owned GSXR's,
The strange thing was that just as many GSXR owners had prev. owned Busa's
I would say that if you ride mainly for about 2-3 hrs max. a GSXR would be a more fun choice, handling etc. but if you are into longer rides go the Busa way
Hey enjoy it, good choice mate.

Its great to get some positive responses from astute, intelligent and well informed people, I think my mother approved the purchase??
I'll let everyone know how the bike (I'll call her the Black Bitch for obscure reasons I won't elaborate on) goes on the Sth Island Trip, kick off is 1st Dec.

Thanks gain

The HAYABUSA was okay, to say the least. The South Island trip was a bastard though as it rained every day and coming through Haast Pass in thunderstorm conditions was a real challenge. I did not get sore wrists or neck, I just got cold and wet. I have had the bike now for 8 weeks and travelled 8500 kms and that bike hasn't missed a beat. Its great for touring with one exception - after 5 or so hours it felt like I had overstressed some muscle I cannot pronounce midway between the right shoulder and hip, quite frustrating.
Getting around traffic was something I looked forward to, but getting on and off the ferry is a real pain, I hate having to fight with those tiedowns that smell as if they have never been cleaned.
I experienced winds on the west coast gusting 40 knots and the bike wavered but I never felt it slide.
If I was going to change anything, I would get hand warmers but I would hate to drive on icy roads anyway. I had to get glove liners going through Tekapo.
Travelling over Athurs Pass - in the rain - gave me a fright because the guage read close to redline, hell I didn't know there wasn't to be a petrol station for 55kms or so. I thought I was in for a wet walk, but the guage kept on dropping to the letter E and I made it, whoever designed this bike was no retard.
Overall I can say that you can never have enough power, it gives you flexibility and enjoyment, you just need to anticipate moreand if speed kills, its the 80 km an hour rod hogging idiot.
Think I will take the bike for a spin, can't get enough of it.

Great bikes. They handle surprisingly well in the tight stuff and on the track, like a fat, planted, predictable, over powered sport bike.

Have Oxford heated grips fitted. Best mod you can do to a Busa.
