I was sick of everyone having all these great stories to tell at the pub on Thursdays, so I thought I'd show the sprotsbikes how it's done.
While commuting home through the rather damp Hunuas, I clipped the white paint on the racing line, which resulted in a pretty decent highside. Saw plenty of sparks as I slid along the road, and next thing I knew I was in a ditch along with my bike, which was facing the wrong way!
Damage to me, nothing major I dont think. Will get hand xrayed tomorrow to make sure as thumb is unwilling to bend. Few other bruises and bumps.
Damage to bike. Missing a few indicators and a mirror, smashed headlight and tail light, missing brake fluid (so front brake didnt work), rear brake lever bent, muffler pretty scratched up and full of stones, and a well bent number plate.
Pics to come.

Crikey, t'was a interesting sight. I'd never thought I'd watch a GN highside!
Was more than just a bit worried when it looked like the bike rolled over her as they went into the ditch, but luckily it was just a matter of perspective. Pulled up a few metres down the road and ran back to pull her out. Don't know why I bothered - she was fine!
More importantly though, her bike was leaking petrol, what with it being upside down and all. I right the bike, and turn to see her throwing her banana from her lunch into the bushes because it was bruised - luckily the apple was still good, so all was okay with the world.
A few seconds with a spanner and picking up the detritus, and she was good to go again. Albeit missing a few parts (like brakes). Shall visit the wreckers tomorrow, to see what we can find. :)
Still, at least I could keep up now!

Cheers everyone for wishing me well too. Glad it wasnt as bad as it could have been.
Sliding along the road at approx 95km/h was a bit scary. Dont remember a lot of it. Just sitting up in the ditch, facing the other way, and making sure everything was ok was where things started again. Really wish I had a camera on me to take a photo of how/where the bike landed. Of course it was leaking petrol so best to pick it up asap. Next step was to turn off the heated grips so my battery didnt go flat.
It started first time, and was able to be ridden out of the ditch. And it made it home ok. Me riding one handed most of the way as my hand was really sore, and carefully, as I had no front brake. Or indicators. Or a mirror.
But yeah, hunting for parts tomorrow after a drs visit to see the damage to me.

Take it easy on the wrist. Good idea to keep it on. Fucked wrists last forever, broken thumbs will heal. I damaged my left wrist in both judo and boxing and its never been the same since. I still get aches. Shoulder injuries suck too. I hyper extended my shoulder four years back. Its still fucked haha.

To be honest I didnt really care too much about this accident. After my inital sit-up in the ditch and body check to make sure I was ok, it kinda just blew past me. I rode home about 25km on the crashed bike with one arm and no front brake, no problems at all. After the time that monkeymsea ran into the back of my bike I was more worried the next time I rode. Jumping on PirateJafa's bike on sunday was easy as well.

For 25km. Not at 25km/h. So it depends on what you count as a real ride. I rode at least 30km on the VFR as well. I know its not my normal distances but its still a ride, not just down the road and back.
And I did it well, who cares about lowsiding a gn, at least I did something that is a bit impressive. On a bigger bike I would have just powered out of it. I think you underestimate my riding skills.

If the centre line was wet enough for you to lose traction on a gn and lowside, then putting on the power with a big bike would have most likely sent you into highside unless you had the wits about you to keep on the gas and not chop it.
this could have been very different if you were riding a bigger bike. I think the lesson from this...and I'm pretty sure you would have already cottoned on to this as you sound like a smart enough lady is not to fang it too hard on the road. It aint a track so dont take racing lines otherwise you could end up clipping the centre line and crashing...
I reckon though when you do get a bigger bike you will ride more carefully as you know that it can go pear shaped ever quicker than on your gn. Heal up and keep on keeping on nathania

I'm not going to sit here and try and figure out what that mistake was: whether it was not riding to the conditions, riding too fast, wrong line, etc. What matters is that Thani figures that out herself and learns from it. Don't just write it off as "an accident". Think of it as an invitation to humby figure out what you need to change.
Chesire Cat, I'm sure you make mistakes too - the argument should not be about mistakes but attitudes and learning from them. You guys have run well away from that into "mine's bigger than yours".

And it was forgetting that white = slippery in wet..
Thani, Don't take this as me trying to tell you how to ride etc bcoz it's not. It doesnt matter to me how u choose to ride, just don't want to see you get hurt and I can see lack of experience on a bigger bike being an issue here - especially with words like racing line and a few other comments been thrown arnd.
Also it's important to remember that when you do get a bigger bike, white lines aren't the only things that make the rear loose. Any corner including a dry warm racetrack with heated tires has the potential to do this. Your a capable rider just work on bettering what uve got. Or bcom a squid like me who wheelies everywhere but cant coner lol
I wasnt going too fast. I know I made a mistake, Im not arguing that I was riding perfectly and I cannot understand for the life of me what happened. I know I fucked up. I know what to not do next time. Cheshire Cat just seems to think Im cocky. Which if she had actually spent any time riding with me at all, she would know Im not.
Better to go back on the same road at 10 kmph and relive what happened in your head, trust me it works wonders. You won't make the same mistake again. Also don't worry abt Cheshire she's just being mean.

Its a joke Raj. I dont ride to the racing line, you've ridden with me, you should know that. Granted you are usually in front but still.
And that sentence
Im not arguing that I was riding perfectly and I cannot understand for the life of me what happened.

Woah, bummer of a crash. Glad to hear you came out OK. A sore thumb and a few bruises is doing OK for a 95km/h bin into a ditch!
Try not to make a habit of it - take it from one who's done it too many times. It's expensive and it hurts :(
Do try and take it easy when you get back on. Watch out for your brain playing stupid tricks on you when it thinks it recognises the same situation happening again - like chopping the throttle in fast corners, that kind of thing. Seems to happen to me for a week or so after an incident. Stupid brain.
But if - as you mentioned - you're confidence is fine, then no worries! Hope you heal quickly and get back out there!

Wow you two. Breath. Yes Thani made a mistake. She hardly binned on purpose now did she.

OK
this is waaaay too long for me to read, BUT we can all agree we shouldn't be on the centreline.
But I have a further concern, pertaining to what in my opinion is a useless learner bike: were you still running the stock plastic tyres, and would anyone present be able to speculate that were you on a bike without totally retarded geometry, that a temporary loss of traction should not have ended with a bike in a ditch?
Why is this relevant? an upgrade right now would be to anything that isn't renowned for simply falling over at the slightest excuse. Now's a good opportunity to get a "real" bike. This can still be a 250 (and have more power than your GN too ;)).
