Hello,

I googled for an owners manual but couldn't find one.
I found one for Honda Spada (on my registration sticker it says: Honda VT250 Spada although it's an XElvis) but I'm not sure how similar is Spada to XElvis.

Can anybody give me some hints where I could find one? I searched on the Wellington Library but they have nothing.

Also, anybody knows how big is the fuel tank on this model? I found different statements, starting from 10L to 16L and I don't quite want to test it the hard way, even if I can turn the reserve switch to on (I've never done it so far). I'm very pleased with the fuel consumption so far, I got 3.5L / 100KM (I'm a learner so 70km/h top speed and no motorways for me).

Many thanks.

Honda made a number of odd models that only show up on the domestic market in Japan. As the owner of a vtz I feel your pain about trying to find a manual. What you need to do is get the engine number and grab a manual that matches it. It won't be a complete manual for your bike but it'll give you most of what you need. I believe a Xelvis only differs by a few components to a standard VT but has higher bars, different fairing and a softer seat. What year is you xelvis?

As with insanity, I also have a VTZ, and also feel his documentational pain.

I have the following and juggle between all three to find the "looks about right" for what's actually out there on the bike, shout out if you want any of them...

Honda VT250F/VT250-FII Service Manual - collection of jpg scans of a production manual.
Honda VT250L/Spada Manual - collection of jpg scans of what seems to be a draft manual with pencilled in corrections
Honda common service manual - pdf

I also use
http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-vtr250-interceptor-vtr-1988-us_model1135/partslist/
which is a microfiche for what was sold as the "interceptor" in the states and is also quite similar to these odd model VT's like th VTZ (actually, I think the interceptor might be the Xelvis?).

Hello,

I found a model number hidden pretty well, it's VT250FN. The year is 1992 (I'll also update my profile).
From my understanding the engine (MC15E) it's identical to the one on the Spada.

I got that manual (scanned jpegs with some pencil corrections) for the Spada but I had doubts about being the proper one.

I guess it's "as good as it gets", but I'm not a mechanic so except the regular level check for fluids, and oiling the chain I'll probably leave the rest to the pros.

I was thinking about changing the oil myself (I used to do this 8 years ago on my car) but I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not. It should be straight-forward though.

Thanks for the answers.

You can't go wrong with an oil change.

Filter will be a standard internal filter, my VTZ (also same engine, but there are minor differences on the "same engine") is an HF111, I expect yours to be the same.

Remove drain bolt, wipe hot oil from your arm, remove cover, remove filter, put new filter in, replace cover, replace drain bolt, fill oil, run engine, check level, job done.
